VW Golf 6 Update
Fans of the iconic VW Golf range will have to wait with bated breaths, as the appearance of the the Golf VI is likely to be postponed. An interview with VW’s head of development Ulrich Hackenburg at the Shanghai Show established that VW’s best seller will not be replaced next spring as per original plans. Apparently, the current Golf V is still selling well and there isn’t sufficient reason to effect a hasty replacement.
However, new VW head Martin Winterkorn was not pleased with the Golf VI’s design and rescheduled the 2008 Geneva Show premiere of the car. He is said to have ordered a complete redesign. The latest addition to Golf’s long lineage seems due for launch sometime in the later months of 2008. According to Hackenburg, the new Golf will utilize an updated version of Audi’s current 160Hp 1.8 Litre Turbocharged FSI mill, most likely with a GT badge, as word suggests that VW plans halting the production of the 170Hp 1.4TSI motor due to reliability problems.The Golf VI GTI is likely to use an upgraded version of the current 2.0 TFSI motor. An SUV variant of the Golf is rumoured to be planned for introduction in the new lineup.

Let’s hope the regular Golf range conspires to deliver some GTI feel. It’s a good car, sure, but a little more excitement from the chassis would be lovely, even if you’re driving a low-po diesel. http://www.GoodCarBadCar.net recently went back in time to drive a Golf MKIV and found it surprisingly fun.

would say Golf was quite (unique) in its beggining, so i would really be disapointed that mk6 is just a “something” like passat/polo or an “old soup” of A3.

You rite dude Golf 5 was always better than the Megane Sport, Focus ST, Mazda MPS in all aspects but couldn’t come close to the OPC but maybe now we can. I hate Opels but the Astra Coupes are still the best looking hatchbacks.

If I was not a fan of VW, I would mistakenly say this is Alfa Romeo. The back looks exactly like Alfa Romeo (not sure which model), but I think they need to go back to the drawing board. To me it does not look like VW were planning on doing major changes to the G5 model. All they wanted to do was fix the mistakes they made with the production of the G5 by introducing the G6. Similarly the GTI also does not promise much in terms of looks. I am still disappointed by VW’s pricing and what they offeron their models. It’s just not worth it.
If only they could just go to the streets and see and hear what the VW fanatics want from them, they’d make a killing selling their cars.

did n’t exceed my expectation g5 was a looker I liked the GTi packaging, but ‘m worried about vw increasing their prices so often. now for the past 5 years i’ve been saving so that I can be among the 1st to own G6 Gti, now I’m starting to wonder if the wait was worth it, I will definetly look at other brands.
Have anyone noticed that the used car dealerships are getting full of G5gti, why are so many people getting rids of the gti’s so soon, can it be due to unsatisfactory performance, I’ve Gti with less than 5000km’s

I noticed a black one this morning at 06h31 on Bosmansdam road Milnerton,clearly marked http://www.golf6.co.za, registration number GOLF, driving like a maniac no indicators and from one lane to another, maybe the indicators did not work and its to fast to drive in peak traffic.I must be a dealer, if they testing the vehicle why not taking it to a track, putting other peoples life in danger.

Im a huge GOLF fan, love it to bitz, but i must say Golf 6…looks great, but i just cannot put my hand on it. The is a little bit of mojo or trade mark missing, G6 needs a touch of something. Congrats Vw, for all your hard work…keepeing on pushing it & being on top on the game.
If i were to be asked tomorrow to choose between your Merc , Beamer or top of the range GOLF…its no brainer i would go for GOLF, my family knows it.
VW…You simply rock period. My greatest turn-on is a golf(red G5 -GTI) on the move…Ooohhhhhhh!!! dont get me started.
The is power & freedom in golf, we will always be loyal to it, dark or blue. Come to think about it, some people i still crazy for the Golf 1 (Velocity)…amazing .
