Spy Pictures: Alfa Romeo Kamal production ready?

alfa_kamal_1

Is it just me or does this look like a vehicle that is very close to production ready? Three spy pictures that were taken by Alfa Romeo employees. I’m sure they’re going to be in a lot of trouble – thanks guys.

It shows that Alfa Romeo Kamal – a SUV from the Italian marque that may or may not be built. What we do know is this thing looks ready to be sold. What we don’t know is if they’re going to sell the Kamal or not.

Guess well have to wait and see.

Breaking: Audi e-tron more expensive than R8!

Audi_e_tron

If you had to choose between Audi’s R8 sports car or pay more to buy the electric e-tron which would you choose?

Sure, it would depend on a couple of things, but the one that really concerns me is the range. Will the be able to make an electric car with the R8’s performance levels that can literally go the distance. I mean what good is a sports car if you can only go quick for a 100km or so?

We’ll have to wait till about 2012 for the answer to that question when Audi is going to build a 1000 units of the e-tron. Audi reckons it can sell a 1000 of these babys through its worldwide dealer network of about 5000 dealers, but they would make more if the merket wanted it and would make less if nobody waned it…so the 1000 units is only a guesstimate.

Pricing? It’ll be priced above the R8.

The most electric day ever: Porsche to offer hybrid Panamera

porsche_panamera_hybrid

It’s official – Porsche will offer the Panamera with a hybrid drivetrain. The company confirmed the at the LA Autoshow.

The vehicle will most likely go on on sale in 2011 and will probably not be offered in 4wd guise. Lots of rumours are floating around regarding which system will be used, but the general consensus is that it will not be using the system we’ve seen on the Cayenne.

If all today’s hybrid announcements are anything to go by Porsche will have a host of electric spares to choose from when it raids the VW group’s electric/ hybrid parts bin.

The most electric day ever: Audi e-tron sales to start 2012

audi_etron_1

Thomas Edison, Alessandro Volta, Nikola Tesla and Benjamin Franklin. All pioneers in the field of electricity and all of them would’ve been very proud of today’s happenings on the Automotive front.

As you may or may not know the LA Auto show is on at the moment and the main theme is electricity and hybrids. It seems as if every car maker used the show to announce their very own zero emissions aspirations.

First up is the Audi e-tron. While we have all seen the red version a couple of months ago, Audi brought along a butt-ugly orange version for the LA show. What we didn’t know till now was that Audi is planning to sell the e-tron from 2012.

Some of the stats are truly unbelievable like the torque number of 4500 nm of torque! Acceleration is awesome too with 100km/h coming up in4.8s and 60km/h-120km/h takes only 4.1s!

Audi Cross Cabriolet – Wire Frame Concept

Design Miami is the place where the most influential designers in the world gather to present what they consider to be the trend in the auto industry to car manufacturers and dealers. This year Audi, will have an exhibition there called “Wire Frame” in which they will present the newest Cross Cabriolet concept and will discuss on it.

Audi Wire Frame Concept

Audi Cross Cabriolet looks pretty nice and very elegant, as you can see in the picture above, but visitors will not be able to see a fully scale model because there is no real integration of the vehicle with the display itself. If you get there (December 7th to 9th) give us a shout about the new Cross Wire Frame Concept.

Hennessey Venom GT – Still a Concept

Hennessey Venom GT Concept

Now I’m having a dilemma. I don’t know if I should choose a Bugatti Veyron or this beautiful Hennessey Venom GT which still a project to be released in 2009. Not that I would have the money to pay for it but it’s just that I can’t decide which is better. The Venom GT is powered by a Dodge Viper V10 8.4-liter engine that can sport 1,000 hp, allows you to choose from a manual six-speed gearbox or a sequential transmission and only weighs 1,225kg. Math is really easy this time, with a 1.225kg/hp ratio and that’s great.

If you need to see how fast this baby is going to be how does 2.5 seconds for to reach 100km/h? How about 14seconds for 300km/h? Would that impress your “co-pilot”? You’ll have to agree with me, if this is how it’s going to look Bugatti Veyron has a very good competitor.

Bugatti Veyron Targa, Rumor Going On

Bugatti Veyron Targa, Rumor Going On

The market is full of Bugatti Veyron rumors with new models rendered but nothing real. However, our sources today have just announced they have inside people that confirmed the new Bugatti Veyron Targa -the topless Bugatti – is already live and running (they’re probably testing it) with sales starting next year.

We all know that a Veyron can reach 400km/h but this is not going to happen with Veyron Targa because it will be limited to 340km/h, but don’t worry this convertible will put a lot eyes on you if you drive it. One small drawback: ýou can’t take the Targa panel with you when you drive open.
Rumors say that Bugatti ordered 400 engines and that all orders have already been filled out.

Let’s see if this rumor confirms.

Mercedes AMG W 197 SLC – Prototype

I am very interested to know if this one will go live in 2010 as announced, but the simple fact that Mercedes and AMG are working hard to revive the legendary 300 SL that made a lot of waves during the 50s and the 60s into something that would look like this, is a big step forward.

Mercedes AMG W 197 SLC - Prototype

From what I know the 2-seats W197 SLC will be built in Germany and the annual production will vary from 3,000 to 5,000 units for a price that will range between 150,000 to 200,000 Euro. No official word so far from Mercedes or AMG so we can only guess it will be powered by a 620hp V8 engine with a rear-wheel-drive.

Do you like it?

Aptera Typ-1: 3-Wheeled Car of the Near Future

Aptera Typ-1

Aptera’s Typ-1 may look like it it belongs in some futuristic movie but according to the company it will be available in at the end of 2008 for a price of less that $30,000 US (under 205K ZAR).

Aptera is claiming the all-electric model can achieve a range of 120 miles (193 kms) and the hybrid model can get 600 miles (965 kms) before running out of steam. The electric model can be recharged in a few hours when plugged into a 110-volt outlet and the hybrid is a combination of electric and gas-powered generator. The company has yet to release performance estimates so speed may be an issue.

The Typ-1 is novel in that it has 3 wheels and is therefore classified as a motorcycle instead of an automobile. Behind the two front seats is a child seat that, when removed, leaves enough space for 15 grocery bags or 2 golf bags.

The Aptera comes equipped with a front crumple zone, driver and passenger side airbags and steel and composite side and rollover protection. Inside boasts of a navigation system, CD/MP3/DVD player, XM satellite radio and a UBS port.

Aptera Typ-1

I think the hardest driver adjustment will be to the “Eyes Forward” vision system. It eliminated the need for side mirrors and instead relies on embedded cameras that display a 180-degree rear view.

Aptera is still raising money to manufacture the Typ-1 but claims to have 400 deposits. Available only in California, for the moment, the most amusing feature of this car may just be the plus and minus signs on the gas and brake pedals. Just in case you become confused as to which does what and since you will no longer be wasting time looking in side and rearview mirrors, you can always duck under the dash and look.

Caparo T1 RRV, Coolest Police Car Ever

Caparo T1 RRV, Coolest Police Car Ever

If no speed limit is your motto and you live in the UK I have bad news. Apparently the Metropolitan Police teamed up with Caparo, Britain’s supercar manufacturer to create the cool F1-looking police car, Caparo T1 RRV (Rapid Response Vehicle) that can go from 0 to 100mph in just 5 seconds.Though it’s just a concept car right now, Caparo T1 RRV was designed to patrol the M25 Highway for getaway drivers or speed limit breakers. It sports 575hp at 10,500 rpm from a 3.5L V8 engine and a top speed of 200mph, so believe me you don’t want it on your tail if you did something bad.

If the concept becomes true, I am sure what I want to do when I grow up: become a police car driver.
