A 1925 original Bugatti Brescia Type 22 Roadster, which was submerged in a lake for over 70 years, is most likely to fetch at least around €70,000 when as soon as it hits the auction block later this month. The Bugatti was submerged in Switzerland’s Lake Maggiore since the year 1936 following an argument between the owner of the cars and a government official.
The auction proceeds will benefit the Fondazione Damiano Tamagni charity, which works on reducing violent crimes amongst juveniles. The last owner of the car was Marco Schmuklerski, an architect who’s buildings very famous around the country. Experts estimate suggest the real true value of the car could top around €90,000. The vehicle can very potentially be restored, or could be easily be used as a display piece.
The car’s identity was tracked through its engine number and chassis number, 879, 2461 respectively, and gearbox number, 964.
It consists of a Chausson radiator, Zenith carburetor, and a twin ignition from SEV.
Bugatti could have chosen no better place than the Dubai Motor Show to celebrate its 100 years of existence, and as a favor to hosting the event, the Middle East natives got lucky with three specific models not to be sold elsewhere. While a couple of products will be one-off models, the Bugatti Nocturne model will have five siblings. The other two models will be the Sang d’Argent and the Grand Sport Soleil de Nuit.
With deliveries beginning in the first quarter of 2010, Nocturne will be the highest priced model at $1.65 million followed by the Soleil de Nuit at $1.55 million and the Sang d’Argent at $1.45 million. Nocturne, the highest priced variant will feature a polished aluminum bonnet well complimented by galvanized side windows and special polished custom rims and aluminum upper body parts at the rear. Magnesium and Platinum dominate the interior of the car. The Sang d’Argent will feature silver metallic paintjob on the outside while the Havana interior will glorify the car on the inside. Last but not least, the Soleil de Nuit is finished in a polished aluminium and Black Blue metallic surface while the bold burnt orange color scheme dominates the interior.
The Bugatti Veyron driver has been identified being Andy House, the owner of Performance Auto Sales in Lufkin, a company that restores wrecked exotics.
Couldn’t spot the pelican he claimed causing him to swerve as he said earlier. The man’s handphone had slipped out of the car’s centre console and he reached to retrieve it from the floorboard, Houston Chronicle reported.
When he sat up, he was startled by a pelican flying low alongside the Bugatti and the front tyre subsequently strayed onto the shoulder of the road.
The man couldn’t regain control, the police told Houston Chronicle. There were no indications that the driver was speeding. (He should still be arrested)
After the crash – trying to fish the Bugatti out of the lake
Regular readers by now should know that we’re big fans of TopGear, hence why we always look on some of their best shows. So how about checking out some of the world’s fastest two wheelers? James May is the lucky bastard to review the £825,000 Pagani Zonda F Roadster on Top Gears test track. The result is obvious – a bad-ass looking four wheeler that is offensively fast. But what if you have it running the track against the Bugatti Veyron in a drag race? Who’ll win? Check it out!
Did you remember that Bugatti was supposed to rock Geneva with their exquisite Centenaire model? Well now it’s time to rock London, because the first model out of a limited number of ONLY FOUR that has reached the Jack Barclay dealership in the exclusive Mayfair district of London. Dedicated to Sir Malcolm Campbell– the first man to drive a car over 300 mph, get your plane ticket to London in case you want to impress your neighbors when you get your kid back from school. That’s definitely something a Bugatti Centenaire can do … It looks brilliant, isn’t it? [via autogespot.com]
If what is going around on the inside lanes of the auto world is supposed to be true, then this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show could be a very significant stop for every car lover in general and Bugatti lovers in particular. Apparently the company is planning on launching a new ultra-luxurious and evolutionary step ahead for the Veyron in the form of what is being called the Bugatti Royale. It is not just the grand Royale though that is doing rounds as even a car named “Lydia”, is apparently being chalked up by the makers for the future. Lydia is slated to be a super supercar that will top the Veyron in every aspect (including the price tag) with a turned-up version of the current 8-liter quad-turbo W16 engine powering it. We will have to wait on both of them for now! [autoblog.com and autoweb.cz]
Celebrating their amazing heritage with over 100 years of experience in building supercars, Bugatti is expected to continue the legend and bring in a new concept for the next week’s Auto Show in Geneva. Dubbed Bugatti Centenaire (great name isn’t it?) it’s not a pimped or facelifted Veyron, but actually a new design that uses a crazy 8.0 liter, 16 cylinder (W16) quad-turbo Bugatti engine that is rumored to output a stunning 1350 hp. None of these have been confirmed yet, but we’re pretty sure the Bugatti stall will be on fire this year. The Frenc definitely know how to make the most of the ultra-luxury brand’s birthday. No, we’ll probably never afford to buy a Bugatti Veyron but at least we can read about it on Car Blog, right? Okay, here’s the deal. Apparently the first Grand Sport Roadster version, which is actually a street-legal beast, is going to be sold for $2.9 million. Those are American dollars, indeed, which makes it one of the most expensive cars on Earth, with the most powerful and advanced technology under the hood.
The official price is 1.4 million euros (~ 2 million dollars) excluding taxes so the lucky owner of the first new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Roadster only paid $900,000 to be first. Auctioneers Gooding & Co. too care of it. Here’s the video:
Just when I thought that Bugatti can’t come up with a new amazing, stunning, incredible (continue the list) new Veyron, here’s what they did. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Roadster. The new Veyron 16.4 which by the way comes with a removable roof, will receive its public debut at this year’s Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance, on August 16th, 2008.
With “innovative structural solutions” compensating for the lack of structural integrity which normally provided by a roof, they managed to come up with a car that is not sacrificing performance and safety for the looks. First one will be built in the Spring of 2009 and will be auctioned the next ya and the renowned Gooding auction at the Equestrian Center at Pebble Beach.
Guess we started the week with the right foot. I declare it the car of the week, no matter what.
“Project Lydia” is the new street-legal car that Bugatti is supposed to work on to make it faster than the Veyron, announced the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport. Though it’s just on paper right now, it is supposed to use a 12-cylinder engine that sports some 1,175 hp and tops at 400km/h (248 mph).
And like we wouldn’t have enough Bugatti rumors, “Project Lydia” is supposed to be a mix between racing and design with Bugatti’s characteristic front grille staying, a huge rear spoiler, front air splitter and the extreme lowered chassis and engine positioning. When it comes to performances, they expect a Nurburgring Nordschliefe lap time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds which is 1 minute better then the Veyron.
Here are a two more sketches on how it might look.
“Project Lydia” named after Ettor Bugatti’s wife Lydia, is going to cost a mere 2.5 Million euros and may become the new king of the ring with only 70 (lucky) owners getting their hands on it. I bet the Sheiks are alerted already, because in 2010 we may see it running nicely on those 20-inch big wheels.
