Is there any chance for a road-going Polo R variant hitting the roads soon? With Polo R WRC due to enter in 2013, we just can’t rule out the possibilities of a road-going variant. The recent news on a Polo R WRC heading for a rally debut in 2013 is what made the suspicion stronger. However, VW is still wavering when it comes to Polo R.

Saab Gears Up For WRC Come Back

Swedish manufacturer Saab has hinted coming back into the World Rally Championships. The last year in which Saab had participated in the championships was in the year 1979. Reports suggest that Saab is looking for a possible return to the series in 2012. The news comes after a comeback announcement by MINI.

MINI All Set For World Rally Championship Re-entry

The upcoming World Rally Championship will see MINI testing its mettle against players such as Citroen, Subaru and Ford. The decision assumes significance for the fact that this will be MINI’s re-entry into the racing challenge which would get underway next year. The car maker will be entering the MINI Countryman WRC, being developed by Prodrive. The tests will be for events that would run through 2011, and is expected to continue during the entire 2012 season.

The car maker is expected to bring on to the race track its four-wheel-drive rally car that will have incorporated in it a BMW Motorsport four-cylinder 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. It is expected that the car would be a regular entrant in more racing series too. Reports suggest that BMW is likely to make the car available to customer teams.

Multiple WRC champion, 34-year old Sebastien Loeb is considering driving a Formula 1 car starting from 2010. At the moment Citroen is pressing the winner of the last five world rally titles to compete with them again in the 2009 championship, but Leob might be interesting in an F1 testing programme for 2009, which would send him on the grid in 2010. “The team bosses think I am too old, but mentally I am not: age would not be an obstacle for me,” he said in an interview. Do you think he has the skills to compete with renowned players on Formula One tracks, because drifting with the Sport C4 is a bit different.
