Wesbank Super Series bike night

Fransie-Engelbrecht-(PST).jpg

Friday 13 July will see the second round of the new and popular WesBank Bike Night at WesBank Raceway. The biking equivalent of WesBank Raceway’s hugely successful Illegal 2 Legal programme, WesBank Super Series Bike Nite is aimed turning the world-class A Grade drag strip into a safe biking playground for all social bikers from SuperBikes to quads from 7pm till late under floodlight. R6,000 prize money will be up for grabs between the S (below 1,000cc) SB (Superbike), the SuperMoto and Quad bike classes. Exhibitionists can do their wheelies and stunts for product prizes, while spectators will applaud safely behind concrete walls and fences.

Cars will be allowed onto the drag strip from 9pm to get their adrenaline fix, but they will not be able to dip into the bikers R6,000 prize kitty! Entertainment will include drifting as well as some hugely popular spinning displays by none other than the King of Spin – Magesh!

R50 to race as many times down the strip as time allows, plus an annual MSA club license (R110 and available on the night). Bikers must wear their crash helmet and wear long pants and protective jackets.

Admission is R40/adult or R20/child for spectators coming by foot or car, and bikers will only pay R20 per bike, with a passenger included! Gates open at 6pm, and racing starts at 7pm until 11pm.

Wesbank is closing down!

If you have been wondering why there have been so few events at Wesbank Raceway, the answer has arrived. As of January 2008, Wesbank Raceway will be no more. The track was taken for a mouth watering R130 million by Pangbourne Properties who will be the land developers of the light industrial park that will replace the super motorsport complex.

It will be a big chunk out of the growth of motorsport in South Africa. Wesbank has hosted many of the countries biggest events including the likes of Ultimate Street Car, the Finals of the National Drag Racing Championship and the countries largest Illegal 2 Legal drag racing on wednesday nights.

For those of you who have not visited Wesbank or even just being apart of the 5000 odd crowd who attend the wednesday night racing, I advise you to do so before you loose the opportunity to.

Over the next few months I will fill a topic on the z00pedup forum with pictures and memories we have had at Wesbank over the years.

Ultimate Street Car - May 2007

Wesbank hosted the Ultimate Street car event this past weekend attracking some of SA’s fastest cars. As I strolled into the pit lanes I was put in awe with the selection of quality super cars. A Subaru came past, then a Porsche, a Noble, an Aerial Atom and then an Ultima, and that’s just to name a few of the amazing cars that came past me. Eighty odd cars later I dragged my bottom jaw off the ground and wiped the huge grin off my face and got down to business.

I got there at the start of the Top End runs and was in the perfect position to get the results and get some cool pictures. After snapping away I met up with Stevin and moved to the second hair pin on the circuit. Read the rest of this entry »

Due to the events huge popularity the drivers’ bookings have already closed with over 80 entries from around the country.

Wesbank Wednesday Nights still rocking the party

Almost every wednesday night of the year Wesbank Raceway is packed with people, barring a short break over the christmas period or if the heavens open up. This has been going on for many years and yet no one seems to be getting bored of it. Infact, the exact oposite is happening, the wednesday night scene has never seen so many people with an estimated 5000 strong entrants.
