The MG has got officially re-launched in the United Kingdom with the unveiling of the MG 6. The vehicle was unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2009. Well, the special Euro-spec MG 6, sports certain differences from the Chinese version. But both of the variants appear to be virtually identical, we must say. The English version has got a nicer interior. It will be built in Birmingham, England.
Audi introduced their most powerful version of its new premium light car, the 2011 Audi A1 1.4 TFSI S line in the UK markets. It will feature a 1.4-liter twin-charged (turbocharged and supercharged) petrol engine capable of producing 136kW of power and 250Nm of torque and accelerate the vehicle to achieve a speed of 0-100kmph in 6.9 seconds.
Lotus has done a bit of improvement to the Elan of the early ’90s by sprinkling some rear-wheel drive capabilities and brought it anew. A clear redone model, the new Lotus Elan comes powered by a mid-mounted 4.0-liter V6 engine with 450 PS (331 kW / 444 hp) and 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) of toque.
First pictures of the Honda Fit / Jazz Hybrid have been released and it will make its world debut at the Paris Motor Show in September.
Gordon Murray’s new city car, the new T.25, has been rolled out at an event at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at Oxford in England. Weighing just 1,212 pounds, the T.25 comes about as a car that can seat three adults in a 1+ 2 layout. While the driver sits at the front-center, two other seats are provided behind on either side The width is just over four feet and length just under eight feet. The T.25 sports a front, akin to a BMW Isetta microcar of the olden days. A 51 horsepower, in-line three-cylinder engine mounted in the back powers the car. The T.25 has been designed to race from to 62 mph in 16.2 seconds while achieving 61.9 miles per gallon.
UK admirers of the Ford Fiesta will get to savor a limited edition model of the Fiesta dubbed the Fiesta S1600. The special edition will be a sportier variant of the Fiesta and its production will be limited to 650 models only. Based on the Fiesta Zetec-S, the S1600 body kit will include an all new front bumper, side skirting, a spoiler and a rear diffuser.
The limited edition model will adore the classic Ford color configuration with blue double stripes against a white body or vice versa. Another specialty will be the 17-inch white alloy wheels for the petrol version and 16-inch for the diesel. Talk about engine choices and the limited edition will feature a 1.6 liter Ti-VCT Duratec with 120 PS petrol and 1.6 liter TDCi with 95 PS diesel optons. The S1600 is readily available and it costs £16,665.
Toyota is expanding its small car domain globally and the UK market is a priority for the Japanese moniker. Toyota will start selling a new edition of the Aygo, the Aygo Black Edition in the UK as early as April this year. The Aygo Black edition will be available in both three and five door options and the highlight will be its Tempest Black paint job on the exterior.
Aygo Black will also feature 14-inch alloy wheels while on the inside it will support leather and Alcantara interior along with sports styling features. The standard Aygo Black will cost £9,460 while the AC integration will make it £500 costlier. The five-door option will be £350 more expensive while the automatic transmission will add another £500 to the pricing.
After Japan and the US, it will be the UK which will see a full-scale production of the Nissan LEAF EV in the company’s Sunderland plant. While the Japanese production commences this year, US will see the LEAF being produced in 2012 and the UK plant will follow a year later.
Nissan also intends to build an advanced lithium-ion battery plant in Sunderland and the construction should begin next month. While the automobile facility will render 50,000 LEAF units annually, the battery plant will have a capacity of 60,000 batteries per year .Collectively, the investment for both these projects will be somewhere close to an astounding £420 million. Nissan LEAF is touted as the first mass-produced and affordable family EV in the world and it will throng many streets across the world in a couple of years from now.
