The Tourer category of vehicles draws a lot of interest and the Opel Astra Sports Tourer is no stranger to the fact. Ideal for family needs, the Opel Astra variant is up for a facelift and its 2011 model prototype has been spotted by spy photographers.

The images reveal a camouflaged rear end but one can still make out the detailing at the rear as similarities can be drawn with the current generation model. There is no extension from the rear side window and even the tail-lights are similar to the current variant but the lower reflector lights have been moved into the bumper. The prototype reveals a production ready model and there is every chance that this sports tourer might start selling within a matter of months. [Images via WCF]

It is unusual yet pleasing that we will see many hybrid cars and car designs breaking cover at this years’ Tokyo Motor Show. Another addition to the green lineage to be showcased in Tokyo will be the Subaru Hybrid Tourer concept which is basically a design study. This design incorporates many of Subaru’s modern technologies other than just the normal hybrid configuration.

Subaru will use the next generation, horizontally opposed, direct-injection, turbo-charged 2.0-liter petrol engine that will be assisted by twin electric motors. The 10Kw unit at the front will run the electrics and pull the car while going uphill and the 20Kw motor on the rear will power the vehicle when the engine power is not required. Other signature incorporations will include the Lineartronic Contiuously Variable Transmission usage and the signature Subaru AWD. Being a hybrid, it will also use regenerative breaking and the start/stop system to increase efficiency.
