Terrafugia the flying car – embarks on historic maiden flight

Published by on Mar 25th, 2009, No Comments

At the rate at which Massachusetts-based firm Terrafugia is going, it’s true that the age of the Jetsons is not too far away! The flying car took its very first flight and the 45-second stint in the air sure seems to have lifted the spirits of all those who have been waiting for the arrival of wings and wheels on the streets. When in air, the Terrafugia is capable of about 115 mph, with a flying-only range of 450 miles. But it can fold up its wings and hit 65 mph on road with an efficiency of 30 mpg running on the same gasoline as your own vehicle. Priced at $194,000, do not expect to drive one of these anytime soon as a production model is still a long way away. [via WCF]

How about driving a car that can transform from wheels on ground to wings in the air within a matter of 30 seconds? No, this is not Hollywood, this is Terrafugia, the Flying Car. Supposed to cruise up to 450 miles at over 115 mph in the air and then turn into a compact car that hits 60 mph with a mileage of 30 mpg, we’re pretty sure you’ll think it’s bull. But it’s not. The first test model has just taken flight. More to it, you can even book your flying set of wheels and wings for just $10,000 on the company’s website. That is just the booking price though, as you will need to shell out up to a whopping $194,000 to bring this baby home. Looks good for those congested intersections, isn’t it? [via Jalopnik]
