Chris Harris builds an E30 M3 rally car

Published by on Aug 29th, 2014, No Comments

Chris Harris

Chris Harris is a very lucky man, this we know. He gets to test drive all the latest and greatest the automobile industry has to offer and then tell us viewers whether it’s good or not.

This time around, however, the self-confessed car junkie took a bit of a different route.

This video features Chris Harris building his very own rally car. Or rather, taking an old E30 M3 rally car and turning it into a better one. It’s really very interesting and for anyone who ever wanted to build their very own rally car, it is a must see.

Check out the video below. Enjoy!

Lewis Hamilton vs Ken Block at Top Gear Festival

Published by on May 22nd, 2014, No Comments

Hamilton Block

The Top Gear Live Festival hit Barbados last weekend, and with it, they brought two of the racing world’s most famous racers – and they’re not even in the same category.

Ever wondered how a F1 race car will perform against a rally car? Well, this is exactly what the Top Gear festival – hosted by the equally entertaining Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond – brought to the fans in Barbados this past weekend. The team brought along American professional rally driver, Ken Block as well as British F1 sensation, Lewis Hamilton, to take a trip around the track.

Block has been a rally champion several times. He is also an all-round extreme sports fanatic, so naturally he was super keen to take on the F1. On the other hand – or wheel – is Hamilton, who really needs no introduction. (more…)

Funniest Rally Race Ever

Published by on Aug 13th, 2013, No Comments

This video will have you in stitches from the first couple of seconds!

An Indian rally driver and his co-driver struggle with communication during the race and thus, trouble ensues.

It seems that the driver of the car, known only as ‘Samir’, clearly didn’t listen to any instructions from his co-driver, much to the poor co-driver’s dismay.

The race took place at the 2013 Rally of Coimbatore, which is part of the Indian Rally Championship. It seems that the two miss communicated drivers are driving a Mitsubishi Evo.

Prepare for some long laughs, check the video below:

Colin McRae dies with son in helicopter crash UPDATED 18/09

UPDATE:

The helicopter’s crash near his home in Lanark, Scotland caused the death of four people: 39-year-old champion along with his five-year-old son Johnny and six-year-old friend of McRae’s son and family friend Graeme Duncan aged 37.

Speaking on behalf of the whole family, Colin’s father, Jim McRae, said today:

“It is with much sadness and regret that we have to make this statement. It is unbelievable that Colin and Johnny’s lives have been taken so prematurely and in such a tragic manner.

Colin was a great son, a loving husband to Alison and a fantastic father to Johnny and his big sister Hollie. Johnny was a great wee guy, spending every spare minute with his dad, and even at this early stage it looked like he had the potential to carry on the family dynasty.

Our thoughts are also very much with the families of Ben Porcelli and Graeme Duncan. Ben was a great buddy of Johnny’s and they had always spent a lot of time together both in and out of school. Graeme, who now resides in France, had been a close friend of Colin’s since their schooldays and was back in Lanark on holiday.

We are thankful for the overwhelming number of messages of support we have received from all around the world. Colin was very much an inspiration and role model to motorsport fans the world over. As you can imagine this is a very difficult time for the family and we would ask that our privacy be respected and we be allowed to grieve in private.” (Colin McRae web page)

“He was a great character outside the car and a tremendous driver inside the car,” his former co-driver Nicky Grist told. “He had so much commitment and oozed talent. f it had an engine and wheels he would get in it and drive it to the maximum. When it came to cars Colin had that little something extra special.”

David Richards, said McRae was a “legend” of the sport. “He was competitive and extreme in everything he did but also so much fun,” he told reporters at the weekend. It’s ironic that he walked away from so many accidents only for this to happen.”

Formula One driver David Coulthard said McRae was “blindingly quick” in a car while another Scottish motor racing great, Jackie Stewart, said: “It’s a sad loss for Scotland, a real hero and an immensely popular friend.”

“He was always my favourite driver, I followed him a lot and went to see him in Monte Carlo and San Remo… everyone is very sad, he was the most spectacular and drove at 100 percent,” Valentino Rossi.

Mcrae became the first British world rally champion in 1995 while driving for the Subaru team. McRae was also runner-up in a Subaru in 1996 and 1997 and narrowly missed the title for Ford in 2001. He won 25 times in the World Rally Championship from 146 starts and picked up 477 individual stage victories.

RIP Colin McRae!

Renault's Pocket Rocket

Published by on Mar 13th, 2007, No Comments

So there I was, happily cruising down a nice straight road in the Megane Sport when the dealer leaned over and said “Put your foot flat down”. I obliged and the car didnt do anything. Weird. All I heard was a muttering of “turbo lag” from next to me but then slowly and surely the rev counter started to climb. Suddenly the turbo reached full boost at 3000rpm and all hell broke loose. I was slammed into my seat and before I knew it, I had hit 150km/h. Now thats turbo power for you!
