Dream car. But what if your wallet doesn’t support such a dream? The best way is to go weird! You have been hoping to drive the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS but then don’t have the money to get one. All you can do is to make one yourself. The racecar gone street legal, which could cost $150,000, could be yours if you have the will.

Nay, we aren’t talking of the model that Porsche has built. Instead you could drive a look alike, well almost, if you have some extra time and creative skills. All you need would be some colored paper and bit of home engineering skills. An almost functional model is what you would end up making, and driving too. Once you have done that, you will have all the right to scream, “Here I come girls, driving my own Porsche! Take a look and DIY.

The 2011 Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 race car was one of the most eagerly awaited unveilings at the New York Auto Show and the race car broke cover at the event to a lot of fanfare. The SLS AMG GT3 will begin appearing in the competitive segment in early 2011 and deliveries will also start around the same time.

The 2011 Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 is all about more carbon fiber usage and larger air-intakes. It also features a new front valance with a huge carbon splitter and there are flicks installed at the front of each wheel to reduce down-force. Under the hood, the AMG 6.3 liter V8 engine receives a slight modification compared to a stock car. It is the lowered weight and not the engine that helps the car dash to 60mph in 3.7 seconds while the listed top speed is 186mph. The top speed can be upped by adjusting the gear ratio.
The Geneva Motor Show will be a great event with some scorching cars and one of the highlights of the event will be the unveiling of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid. The hybrid system which features in this car is tailor-made for racing and it is different from the conventional hybrid systems like the one found in the Prius.

Porsche has used a fly-wheel generator in a KERS and the generators rotor renders 40,000rpm which then combines with regenerative brakes to send eight-second power bursts to the motors. The entire combination involves a couple of front mounted motors that churn 161hp and a rear-mounted 4.0-liter 480-horsepower flat-six engine. The racing entity is scheduled for an endurance test before summer and the Hybrid will also participate in the 24 Hours on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring later this year.

At the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, the chaps from Porsche have announced their latest race car. Based on former 911 models, the new Porsche 911 GT3 R adds certain goodies to make the amateur racer like you and me, to feel like a pro. And we’re talking about traction control, ABS, electronic throttle or the upgraded to 4.0-litre that sports nothing less of 480bhp. Some other features include additional wheel arches at the front and rear, LED rear lights, a rear diffuser and a more adjustable rear wing. The company claims that the Porsche 911 GT3 R is set to debut in 2010, but it has (already) nearly sold out.
Note: With Geneva in full swing, this week we will be really focused on putting up the most interesting models on show.

All wrapped in a glossy red, the new Porsche 911 GT3 made it’s public debut at the Auto Show in Geneva. And it really managed to get our full attention. With power coming from a naturally-aspirated 3.8 liters flat-six engine that outputs 435 hp and 317 ft-lbs of torque, and a top speed of 194 mph, the track performance car is packed with technology. That includes the Porsche’s Active Stability Management (PASM) system, stability and traction control or a set of ceramic-composite brakes. As for styling, the new 911 GT3 features some new bi-xenon bulbs in the front, stylish LED taillights in the back, a restyled rear spoiler or larger air intakes with mesh skins. Going on sale later this year, that beast is going to be expensive. [via WCF]

We can’t be sure if the new 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 will be showcased in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, but seeing it on the streets is just as good. Expected to see the light in Geneva at the International Auto Show in March, the newest addition to the 911 family features new bumper with a lower spoiler, larger air intakes with mesh inserts, and modified bi-xenon headlights. With a 3.8-liter beast under the hood that outputs 435 horsepower and 317 ft-lbs of torque, Porsce 911 GT3 goes from naught to 60mph in just 4.0 seconds and tops at 194 mph. As for the price (base price that is), in US it goes up from $112,200 (no taxes included) while in Europe (Germany) it goes for some €116,000 (tax included). Dang it looks powerful in that hot red. Check out the video and the gallery with the new Porsche 911 GT3.

The old GT2 is getting an upgrade and the Germans just made their new Porsche GT3 RSR, official. And the biggest change is … (be prepared) … a substantially louvered hood. Of course there are some aero tweaks, brakes and wiring harness that make it a bit lighter and a multifunction display. Add a 4.0 liter (up from 3.8) engine that outputs 450 hp at 7,800 rpm and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) at 7,250 rpm, and you have a … pretty disappointing new Porsche. Why would they release a car that won’t bring many changes from the older version? Expected to sell for a €380,000 (plus the appropriate VAT) we can’t vouch it’s going to be a top seller. Looks good though. [via Autoblog]

Two of Germany’s most extreme sports cars come head-to-head in this latest video comparo from Auto Motor und Sport. In one corner is the recently launched E92 M3 Coupe and in the other is Porsche’s track focused GT3. Pity the video is German but there’s plenty of driving action to make it a worthwhile watch.
