2010 Saab 9 5 No Confirmed Deal for Saab Thus Far, Shut Down Continues

GM saw its worst time ever last year and the year changing has done the once great brand no favor with GM having to extend the deadline for sale of its Swedish brand Saab. The earlier deadline was December 31 but since nothing could be finalized until then, GM has extended the offer till January 7. Spyker, the Dutch supercar manufacturer is the best bidder after its updated bid as the initial talks between the two brands failed.

There is no clue about the exact number of bidders and even Spyker has struggled to find a financer which it requires desperately to seal the deal. The Russian Convers Group is Spyker’s main financer and it is still unclear whether the group is backing the deal although Spyker has insisted that it is confident about the negotiations with GM. As far as the future production for Saab is concerned, the production will resume tentatively for the 9-5, 9-3 and a few other models to meet the current demand.

The wagon shape isn’t a popular iteration for a commuter to chose but when the same bears a GM Moniker and promises to incorporate the Delta Platform from the Chevy Volt, we sure know we are in for something. The Orlando-a seven passenger multi-purpose vehicle which adorns the wagon shape was on track for a 2011 production but then bankruptcy changed everything for GM. Now the stalled Chevrolet model that was first seen at the Paris Motor Show is moving forward if Bob Lutz is to be believed. It hasn’t been confirmed but as per Lutz, GM is studying the adaptation of Volt technology to the upcoming Orlando. It may therefore be produced as an electric family commuter with an extended range based on the Delta platform of course. [via  GM-Volt.com]

Here is another addition to that list as both General Motors and Segway decided to bring the urban commuter of tomorrow into the New York Auto Show of this year. Dubbed as Project PUMA (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility), this is a two-seater, two-wheel electric vehicle that is designed to transport people around an urban space quickly, safely, quietly and cleanly. With a top speed of 35 mph and a range of 35 miles on a single charge, PUMA comes with integrated Dynamic Stabilization for balance and a Smart Battery management system for the lithium-ion power pack. General Motors is in a mood to celebrate its supremacy in the GTS class of racing and it does by releasing the Corvette GT1 Commemorative Edition— paying a tribute to the famous Z06 and its dominance on the speedy tracks. Available in coupe, convertible, and Z06 models, with the famous yellow or black pattern, these are limited edition goodies that appeal with aesthetics more than sheer improved performance. While few modifications have been made under the hood for a performance boost, the Commemorative Edition seems more like a showpiece aimed for those who are fanatic about the Z06 and Corvettes.
