Mercedes Benz AMG 6.3 litre V8 engine Mercedes AMG V8 making way for a twin turbo variant

Mercedes four wheeles that house the naturally aspirated 6.3L V8 unit will have a different variant under the hood, come 2010. The 6.3-liter AMG V8 will make way for a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine and the new engine models will start selling in the last quarter of 2010. The official unraveling of the engine will happen at next year’s Paris Motor Show following which the engine will hit the production facility. Mercedes wants to focus on better fuel economy whilst also reducing the emissions however performance is something the brand will not like to sacrifice as that could hurt the sales figures. The naturally aspirated V8 variant renders between 450 and 520hp with 440 lb-ft of torque. As far as the economy goes, the city numbers reflect 12mpg which are bettered on the highway by 7mpg.

ferrari test z wri 11 210208 FIA May Bring Standard Engines in F1 : Toyota & Ferrari to Leave

Those jerks guys at FIA are trying to push a new regulation starting with the 2010 F1 championship and that is standard engines for all teams. I’m not going to ramble on why I think that’s a very very very bad decision because you probably feel the same. However, I plan on telling you that hearing rumors that such a major rule might be in place from next year, Ferrari and Toyota already made up their minds. They’re going to pull out unless those brainless guys that rule F1 change their minds. I’m hoping for an alternative solution to spiraling costs associated with engine development, because standard engines is not yet a viable one. – via F1-live

Subaru Boxer Diesel, we've been expecting you

subaru boxer turbo diesel engine Subaru Boxer Diesel, we've been expecting you

There’s good business in the diesel market and Subaru can’t stay on the side anymore. They decided to show off their first diesel engine during the 78th Auto Show in Geneva this week. It’s a 2.0L turbo diesel boxer engine and the Europeans are the lucky bastards to get it in Legacy / Outback models, sooner than everyone else.

Since diesel is more about torque than horse power, I’m not really happy with those 100kW at 3,600 rpm, but thanks to a variable turbo charger it has 350 Nm of torque from 1,800 rpm.

“The Subaru Boxer Diesel is mated with Subaru’s unique symmetrical AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) to achieve driving performance standards only Subaru is capable of. These standards include high-level stability and outstanding acceleration thanks to powerful low- and medium-speed torque.
On top of this, the two models adopt new electric power steering to achieve both improved fuel efficiency and fun to drive. They not only comply with the Euro 4 emission regulations, but realize top-level fuel economy for AWD passenger vehicles, thereby integrating driving performance into the environment.” they said in a press release.
