Toyota has announced that they have plans to introduce six new hybrid vehicles by the year 2012. The company has not revealed too many details yet, apart from the at that they are planning to have three of thee models only as hybrids and the other three will be hybrid versions of models that are already out on the market, which are currently running as petrol versions.

The wagon shape isn’t a popular iteration for a commuter to chose but when the same bears a GM Moniker and promises to incorporate the Delta Platform from the Chevy Volt, we sure know we are in for something. The Orlando-a seven passenger multi-purpose vehicle which adorns the wagon shape was on track for a 2011 production but then bankruptcy changed everything for GM. Now the stalled Chevrolet model that was first seen at the Paris Motor Show is moving forward if Bob Lutz is to be believed. It hasn’t been confirmed but as per Lutz, GM is studying the adaptation of Volt technology to the upcoming Orlando. It may therefore be produced as an electric family commuter with an extended range based on the Delta platform of course. [via GM-Volt.com]

Did you know that European-market version of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, goes by the name of Opel Ampera? Expected to debut next month at the International Auto Show in Geneva, spied pictures of the Ampera prototype just leaked online and from what we see it looks like a production ready five-door hybrid. A damn good looking one. Using GM’s “Voltec” plug-in hybrid system that is powered by a full-time electric motor with a small gasoline engine/generator, Ampera is expected to range up to 500 miles (800km). Definitely in love with the sleek and stylish design, all we know for now is that it’s expected to go on sale from 2011. Now that’s some real competition for Toyota’s Prius, isn’t it? That’s a mean greenie … [via WCF]

Another leakage in the car market and some more guys to appreciate it. Yes, we do appreciate when we can see the new version/model before the official debut at motor shows. Today it’s Chevy’s turn to show us some spice. Their new electric vehicle (car), Chevy Volt, appears in a few shots with all sorts of “models” that don’t seem to be prepared. Honestly, we’d have expected young women close to the car instead of ties and suits
But back to Chevy Volt, the company released a couple of teaser images last few months but this time we have it for real so ladies and gents, this is how the new Chevrolet Volt is going to look. That’s the actual production model. How do you like it? Beats Prius? Would you buy one?
