We’ve always been impressed with what tuners from Carlsson come up with, but the latest W212 E-Class Tuning Program definitely proves as a disappointment for us. Maybe it’s the 20-inch wheels or the side lines that got our negative vote, but bottom line we’re not going to buy it (as if we’d afford it – haha).

Expected to be showed off at the 2009 Bodensee Tuning World Auto Show in Germany, the “upgraded” W212 is going to feature a vertically-running LED daytime lights, a stainless steel mesh grille, a redesigned front apron, while the rear got an integrated diffuser, a spoiler and some interesting steel tailpipes. However, there is something we like about it. The interior. It features a set of brushed aluminum pedals, Alcantara leather, a white illuminated Carlsson logo and aluminum door locking pins that charm you at a first glance. [WCF has more details]

The Germans know how to make cars but they also know hot to tune cars. The guys at Carlsson would like to take a chance and modify your Mercedes SL500 into a Carlsson CK50 (also known as a beast) with improved performances.
First thing they did is adding a new electronic control unit (ECU) that will improve the output of the 5.5 liter V8 to produce 435hp (instead of the factory 388 hp) and a 600 Nm of torque. With these modifications and a new exhaust system that include four polished tailpipes, the car is capable to top at 293 km/h and should do 100km/h in 5.1 seconds.
Other than the performance modifiers, Carlsson has come up with a lengthier front spoiler and electro-polished grille inserts, a rear diffuser with air conduction system and rear spoiler for the SL with AMG package. Also a nice addition are the 30mm lowered C-Tronic suspension and the 19/20-inch light-weight multi-stoke wheels.

Mercedes-Benz tuning specialists Carlsson have joined forces with international leather-lifestyle brand Etienne Aigner to develop the Carlsson Aigner CK65 Eau Rouge model. Made in an exclusive small series, the luxury coupe based on the Mercedes-Benz CL produces over 700 bhp (522 kw) and 1,100 Nm after being reworked by Carlsson.

Technical masterpiece
The engine conversion by Carlsson includes a special electronic control unit with special maps for injection and ignition. On the intake side, sports air filters ensure optimum aspiration. On the outlet side, a stainless-steel sports exhaust system with high-performance metal catalytic converters and sports silencers cut back-pressure to a minimum. Another measure to boost engine performance is improved intercooling, which reduces charge-air temperature. Thus, the V12 is always raring to go and the driver can rely on having more than adequate power on hand regardless of the situation. (more…)
