BMW seems to be on a roll with its Active Hybrid editions as it as just unveiled the Hybrid version for the X6 and now there is also an Active edition ready for the BMW 7 Series. This edition will be unveiled at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show and is scheduled to go on sale in the US, next spring.

The Hybrid option looks to set new standards for performance and efficiency in the premium luxury class and this is to be achieved using a modified version of BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which is equipped with a 3-phase synchronous electric motor. As a result of this combination, this green beast produces 455hp 516 lb-ft of torque and this engine configuration is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 7 Series Hybrid clocks 4.8 seconds in the 0-60mph and manages a 15% increase in the efficiency as a consequence of these changes.

Tuners worldwide seem to be interested in getting beefed up BMWs on the market; and we can only be happy about it. German “tweakers” from HAMANN showed off the 2009 BMW 7 Series from their own perspective. Part of an aerodynamic kit, there’s a new front skirt with integrated LED daytime running lights, a roof spoiler and a rear spoiler for more aggressivity. Also on offer there’s a new set of four sporty tailpipes and a range of wheels that are supposed to make it stylish. Large car that tries to prove its performance, but do you like it?

No this is not an octopus, this is a camouflaged E65 BMW 7 series that’s dressed up like this because the German maker is testing new camouflage system in Munich, for their future prototypes. BMW admitted it to BILD, the biggest tabloid in the country.

My first impression was that this is the new 2009 BMW 7-series but at a closer look there aren’t many things different from the older version and I don’t think BMW would ever come up with the same product but under a different “color”. But think how many people made the mistake and how BMW laughs at them right now. The system works.
To be honest I wouldn’t mind driving a camouflaged version be it a 3-5 or 7-series. Would they build one if anyone asks ?
