With the unveiling of the next-generation Chevrolet Volt (Opel / Vauxhall Ampera) soon, General Motors plans to bombard the auto world with a significant extended-range offensive.

Details about the Opel 2012 Zafira have started surfacing of late. The redesigned version of the MPV has a cabin that is more spacious than the previous one, with the third and fourth rows being roomier. Accommodating the roominess of the new version, the vehicle is bigger in size – 4690mm long, 1820mm wide, and 1690mm tall.


The new 2010 Opel Astra, unveiled at Frankfurt is a 5-door hatchback, that goes by the name of Vauxhall Astra in the UK. The engine choices for the new Opel Astra are a 1.4 petrol turbo that outputs 88kW (120hp) or a 1.6 turbo — same one from the Insignia — that sports 132kW (180hp). On the inside it boasts a sweeping center stack and red accent lighting to provide an upscale look and feel. It also features arrowhead jewelry in the light clusters, an emergency brake switch instead of a manual pull handle and under the floor storage. On sale in Europe starting this fall, the new Opel Astra is expected to be a hot ticket at a cool price. We’re in for one!

With sleek lines and sporty elegance, it’s built on GM’s new Delta platform (just like the Volt) and runs on a variety of engines; 1.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol including a 120 to 140hp turbo version, a turbo 180hp 1.6-liter and of course 1.3-litre, 1.7-litre and 2.0-litre turbo diesels. Expected to go on sale in Europe in the five-door version starting with next year’s autumn, we’ll get to lay our eyes on it at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show first.
