Written by: Neil Hilden

As you have probably guessed, the new Mercedes Benz GL 63 AMG comes with all the luxury and comfort that you would expect from this German car. And it doesn’t disappoint. The new Mercedes Benz GL 63 AMG fully carries on the Mercedes tradition in that it offers the best performance oriented all-wheel-drive experience. The AMG comes with top of the line features and equipment that embraces innovation and superb attention to detail, providing a perfect mix of luxury and comfort.

The new Mercedes Benz interior is a breathtaking work of art with high quality leather upholstered seats. The new AMG is the big daddy compared to those archaic and somehow absurdly powerful off-roaders. Then a look under the hood presents to you the source of the power.

AutoMobile Magazine contributor Ezra Dyer decided to put two vehicles, one of which is electric, up against each other in an impromtu 0 – 100 mph drag-race.

The models were two luxury sedans – The electric Tesla Model S and the four-door 2013 BMW M5. The place was Gingerman Raceway in western Michigan, in the U.S.

The result? Closer than anyone expected.

Watch the two cars go head-to-head in the video below:

Back in February, Chris Harris also pitted the BMW M5 against the Nissan GT-R. Take a look at the result of that comparison here.

Infographic: How VW will conquer the world by 2018

Published by on Oct 5th, 2012, No Comments

From almost becoming bankrupt in 1993 to reaching a record $23.8 billion in profits and becoming the world’s number one car manufacturer, Volkswagen has certainly gone a long way from being the “people’s car” to being “The Car” as its current slogan states.

Sales comparisons indicate that as early as 2006, VW had already started on its way to the top and by 2011 has already surpassed the rest in terms of worldwide sales. Forecasts for 2018 indicate that VW will further exceed all other carmaking groups.

Road Test: Ford Ranger 3.2 TDCi XLT

Published by on Oct 3rd, 2012, No Comments

When you first look at the Ford Ranger, it is quite a daunting machine. The sheer size of the thing makes you wonder what it would be like to use in everyday life. But this Ford is not alone – other bakkies in SA are also starting to stretch in size. South Africa is currently being flooded with great new choices in the bakkie market, and the new Ford Ranger might just make the most compelling argument of the bunch. While the VW Amarok was the big new entry in the last few years, the new Ranger is the bakkie that will be trying to persuade the Hilux faithful.

We spent the week with the new high end 3.2 litre TDCi XLT model, and the new Ranger did not disappoint.

Jaguar F-TYPE Pre-Launch Videos

Published by on Sep 25th, 2012, No Comments

Ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show, the F-TYPE is once again put through high-speed testing by engineers showcased in a series of films.

In ‘Fierce’, filmed at the Nardo Test Facility in Italy, the F-TYPE is put through the most rigorous high-speed testing by Jaguar’s engineers. The unique ring shaped track means that test drivers can not only VMax the car but it’s also possible to stress test at the most extreme high temperatures.

Watch as the F-TYPE is pushed to its limits to ensure outstanding performance:

The film ‘Focused’ was filmed at The Nürburgring motorsports complex in Germany. Nürburgring features a Grand Prix race track and an older “North Loop” track, nicknamed the “Green Hell” by Jackie Stewart, which is widely considered one of the most demanding purpose built racing circuits in the world – there is nowhere else like the Nordschleife (the North Loop).

Here the car is tested through a series of sustained high speed laps with rapid changes of direction, gradient, speed, braking, and surface to help refine the cars set up, damping, braking systems, for the most punishing lap on the Green Hell. Proving the cars sporting credentials and real world liveability:
