Announced a few minutes ago, Renault Laguna GT is the newest model to come out from the French bench. It’s stylish and expressive and it uses the new Active Drive chassis which is complex a four wheel steering system (4WS) set up that will make the new Laguna GT to “reach new heights in driveability and active safety”.

The performance for this sports tourer, which is actually a family car, is assured by two engines. One is a 2.0 dCi diesle engine that sports 180hp and a turbo 2.0-liter petrol engine to come up with 205hp. With special 18-inch Celsium alloy wheels which hide large 320mm front brake discs and a dark charcoal leather on the interior the new Renault Laguna GT is going to look great at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

International Motor Show in Geneva this year is going to be big. Very big, because there are so many announcements with lots of new models coming up. That’s the case with this BMW twin-turbo diesel hybrid X5 that uses the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept technology. The engine is a 2.0 liter four cylinder diesel that sports 204hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and is mated to a hybrid motor that brings 20hp more and 154 lb-ft of torque.

It uses a 8-speed gearbox designed by ZF and it should be able to come up with 43.5 mpg, and with 172 g/km of CO2 emissions. This is so green that the solar panels have been mounted on the roof. This is going to be the world premiere of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics X5 so I bet it’s gonna be big.

Now that I mentioned the interior of the 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio, it comes with gorgeous charcoal with cranberry twin-needle topstitching or ivory with slate stitching leather seats so that you can relax while you drive. Now if you’re a fan of audio setups then this one is for you: 525-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

It’s official as you read.

So far Buick’s Riviera Concept was only presented in China at Auto Shanghai 2007 in April, but we’ve heard that it will make its debut on North American soil, next month at Detroit Auto Show. Though we get to see it that much the chances to see it live are very low but rumors say that future Buicks like the next-gen Buick LaCrosse will borrow a lot of features from the looks and the design of the Riviera Concept.

If the picture is not enough and you want to see it exhibited then 19th-29th January in Detroit is the first place, then at Chicago Auto Show from 8 to 17th February.

Pininfarina Sintesi is the name and was designed by Director Design, Lowie Vermeersch that has more than 10 years experience. I am sure it will not only focus on “beauty driven by functionality, of sportiness and elegance” but will be almost flyable if we consider the looks.

It is that time of the year when the entire automotive buzz comes to literal halt, irrespective of what related event is in progress for it is April and the only place the buffs want to be at, is the Gumball!

The Bugatti Veyron will feature in this years run. It is being equipped with Laser Pro Park, a system that is basicly a parking aid with a twist. Other than helping you park the over a million dollar Bugatti Veyron in small parking spots it somehow makes it impossible for laserguns to get a reading. This means you can drive the Bugatti at speeds it’s made for without having to worry about a big fine from a cop with a lasergun!

The present buzzz is the fact that Veyron will be the new entry into the famous run and the most expensive entrant to date.

Keep watching ZoopedTube for videos from the run posted daily!

The mighty roar and rumble of the Total V8’s will once again be heard at WesBank raceway on Saturday 14th of April as the combination of talented development drivers and seasoned racers take to the challenging 2.4 km road circuit for the first round of the 2007 Championships.

Launched in 2006 with Total SA sponsorship and management by Peter Lindenberg, the Total V8’s allow up and coming development drivers to experience real racing in real race cars. After having cut their teeth on various ovals throughout the country as well as in Namibia and having raced on road circuits the development drivers have improved to the point where the seasoned racers will have to watch their backs at every turn.

The start of the 2007 championships sees racing legend and Total V8 mentor Peter Lindenberg retiring from the series. “Having won the 2006 championships I feel that it is time for the new and up-and-coming drivers to make their mark”, he explained. Two new drivers will be joining the field. Ann Evans, an accomplished off-road racer will be taking part in her first ever on-road race and Jurie Human (Orange truck Rental), a roof of Africa off-road competitor will be filling in the second spot. It will be a steep learning curve for the off-roading newcomers as they face the challenges of piloting these V8 brutes.

Ross Lazarus (Jonnesway ,2nd place overall in 2006) and top placed development driver Ismael Peck (TOTAL, 3rd in 2006) will be working hard to stay at the sharp end of the grid as the talented field spearheaded by the extremely fast Seefie Fourie Jnr (Karcher, 4th in 2006) currently a short oval champion, will be making sure that first place in this years series will be fought for till the bitter end.

Magesh the ’King of Spin’ Ndaba (TOTAL, 5th in 2006) the well known spinning celebrity will be looking to improve on his impressive placing as he takes the challenge to the rest of the field. Victor Pardal and Dawood Hoosein (TOTAL, 7th and 8th respectively in 2006), both licensed drag racing officials and hosts of WesBank Wednesday night drag racing will have their own cars for this year so expect to see some impressive performances from them. Deyana Peck (Brakpan Diff and Gearbox Centre), who at 16 years old has amazed spectators and competitors alike with her skill behind the wheel, completes the line-up of this exciting series. Deyana will for now only be competing in the Oval events.

Other classes in the regional circuit event include the Super Saloons, Formula Libre, M, GTI and Ford classes as well as the Lotus Challenge, Silvercup, Superhatch, Alfa Trofeo and super speedy 250cc Superkarts to round off an impressive field of entrants.

Entry tickets will be available at the gate at a cost of R40 per adult and R20 per child. The pits are open for spectators to mingle with the drivers and the great WesBank facilities with well situated grandstands will allow for unparalleled viewing of the racing.

After much burning of midnight oil, Peter Lindenberg, who is well known in KZN for his Formula 1 Powerboat achievements, will be entering a three car privateer team into the challenging world of production car racing in 2007. Their first event will be the production car curtain-raiser to the A1 Grand Prix in Durban this weekend. Named the ‘Hotontar’ team, Lindenberg Racing will be fielding three new spec Subaru WRX Sti’s in class A, challenging the big factory teams as an independent team entry. Medal Paints are the main sponsor of the only lady in the Production Car National Championships, Clare Vale, who is a former Shelby Can Am driver. Racing his magnificently turned out red ‘Scoobie’, Peter (Ferodo / Champion / Ram) will also be joined by former Silver Cup driver Dawie Olivier (Bosal / Ram) in the third driver’s seat.

Perry Chetty, Medal Paint’s Marketing & Sales Director, who lives in Westville, joins Bosal, Ferodo, Ram, Subaru and Champion Spark Plugs and the major backers to the team.

Lindenberg Racing have always done things their own way and the Hotontar team is no exception; the cars’ eye-catching liveries have a very different look, and the unique pit setups which will allow spectators far more interaction with the team will bring some welcome changes to the production car series.

Having won two Super Saloon National oval titles (2005 & 2006) and a hat-trick of Total V8 championship wins, the former powerboat champion recently typically hung up his helmet in oval racing at the top. He will still compete in Historic races but his main focus for the coming years will be the Hotontar team. Production car racing is one of the few areas that Peter Lindenberg has not competed in and with the current motor industry boom, the Bridgestone production car racing series is set to grow rapidly with increased support from the major manufacturers. With 10 events comprising of two heats each and the entire season enjoying TV coverage, the opportunities are clearly evident. The local Subaru enthusiasts are also a passionate bunch and seeing their cars racing head to head with the established teams will be very exciting indeed.

“Winning partnerships are the key to continued success, and our decision to race Subaru vehicles for the Production car challenge was reached after looking at many factors that influence Production car racing today,” said Lindenberg. “The cars are based on standard models and the team is solely responsible for their preparation from the ground up”, he added. The Subaru package of all wheel drive, boxer engines and turbo charged technology is unique in the Production car lineup and may provide the team with a competitive edge. The vehicles are being developed at the Lindenberg Racing workshops based at WesBank Raceway in Germiston.

Remia Brynardt, Lindenberg Racings workshop manager is very upbeat about the team’s prospects for this year, and he knows that they will be under a lot of pressure over the next two weeks. “The Durban street race with its concrete walls is very unforgiving. Having the first official round of the championships the following weekend in Gauteng will not ease the pressure”, he added. The drivers are taking their involvement very seriously and are involved in a fitness and weight loss routine (Clare Vale has already beaten the men in this category) to improve their performance as well.

The team will be in Durban as of Wednesday this week to start to prepare for their first race

Adrenaline junkies are invited to bring along their street legal car or bike and duel down the world-class quarter mile drag strip under floodlight and learn how to race with pukker drag lights. Plus a gymkhana contest, which will also focus on Germany vs Japan, an IASCA sound-off and spinning training and spinning display by the King of Spin – Magesh and his club members!!

The drag racing format is ‘Heads Up’ street racing, with times and speeds shown on the electronic scoreboard for all to see, and printed out for the competitors. There will be R6,000 prize money spread between the 4, 6 and 8 cylinder cars and the S (below 1,000cc) and SB (Superbike) bike classes.

Dirk Gloy, who races a normally aspirated 2 litre, 8 valve VW Golf is hoping to improve his quarter mile elapsed time from 14.2 seconds into the 13 seconds after lightening his car.

Racing his 1400 twin-cam 16 valve Nissan Turbo-charged bakkie, Pieter Coetzee plans to get from the high 11 seconds into 10 seconds.

One can only wish god speed to Pastor Fanie Coetzee, who started drag racing three years ago in the PST category on his Suzuki Hayabusa at the age of 50, and he finished 6th overall in SA last year. “I clocked my personal best time of 8,9 seconds and 275 k/ph at the last race, and I hope to go quicker as I prepare for the first round of the nationals on 4 February at WesBank Raceway”, he said. WesBank Raceway look forward to welcoming back Tony de Matos, a top bike contender who has been out of racing for a year following a massive bike accident on the highway. Although he still uses a crutch, de Matos is confident he will make it back to the top.

Race entry is R50, plus an annual MSA club license (R100 and available on the night). Contestants must bring along a crash helmet and wear long pants and long sleeves for protection.

R40/adult or R20/child for spectators. Gates open at 6pm, and racing starts at 7pm. Refreshments available, and a great night vibe.

WesBank Raceway, Rand Airport Road, Germiston off the N3 South.

Call (011) 842-8000 or 072 777 1999 for further information.

It may only be a competition for street legal cars and drivers with no racing background, but the finals of the Action Street Car racing event taking place at WesBank Raceway on Sunday 10 December will be awarding the winner with a brand new Sony sponsored Honda Civic complete with a pumping sound system valued at no less than R180 000-00. So to put it mildly the competition will be fierce. To make regular licensed drag racers even more envious, the runner-up will win a sponsored drive next year in their own car by Yokohama tyres and Speed & Sound, while 3rd place driver overall will receive a family season pass for all WesBank events for 2007.

Spectators will be more than welcome to witness the racing as the 100 top drivers from these events challenge each other for the top spot in the finals. The finals will add dialed in times to the equation which will ensure that consistency is as important as outright speed. This makes the Action Street Car challenge unique in that the recipient of the prizes could literally be any aspirant racing driver holding a valid license in his every day street legal or licensed car with normal tyres.

Gates open at WesBank Raceway in Germiston at 9am, and practice runs start at 10am with eliminations commencing at 2pm. Admission is R30 per car, racing or spectating. Entertainment throughout the day will include an awesome spinning demonstration by Magesh ‘the spin king’ Ndaba, quad biking, go-karting and much much more. For more information visit: www.wesbankraceway.co.za.

It is an internationally rated show and it allows car manufacturers to show off their brand and to show the public what the future of their brand holds, and also many choose to show what kind of capabilities they have with many concept cars being on display.

A few examples are Toyota, Renault and Ford with their concepts cars, Honda with the “oh so” cute AI Robot and then Audi with their amazing RS4 Convertible and the mouth watering, eye catching, sexy and exhilarating to say the least R8.

There is so much more to speak about and show you, but i will leave you with these few images..

If you want to see this incredible feat of automotive engineering being put through its paces by everyone’s favourite car reviewer – the charismatic Jeremy Clarkson, of course – then be sure to cancel all your plans for this coming Tuesday night! Clarkson will be reviewing the Bugatti Veyron on Tuesday 25th of July during that night’s episode of Top Gear Xtra. It looks set to be an incredible review, so be sure to catch it.

Top Gear Xtra can be found on DSTV channel 40. Remember, Tuesday 25th of July at 8pm! Don’t miss it!
