The Top Gear Festival, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the City of Durban are getting prepared for the 2nd in the trilogy of the hugely successful Top Gear Festival weekends on June 15th and 16th, powered by Shell V-Power .
This year Top Gear is bringing two-time Formula 1 Champion Mika Häkkinen along as one of its guest drivers.
Last year, the Moses Mabhida Stadium, People’s Park and Street Circuit played host to a sell-out event , with 67 000 visitors enjoying the explosive live show, an enthralling street circuit, and a motoring exhibition packed with some of the world’s greatest supercars, classic automobiles and motoring memorabilia. This year’s much anticipated event promises to be bigger, better and, in true Top Gear style, even more ambitious than 2012!
Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson test drives the smallest car in the world, the P45, that was built by Clarkson himself.
As you will see in the video, he looks pretty ridiculous wearing protective head gear that makes him look an astronaut.
Take a look at all the Top Gear antics in the video below:
The Ford Focus has always had an interesting history in South Africa – Ford aficionados were always impressed by its interesting looks and good engines. The VW and Toyota faithful – not so much. There was just not enough to make these buyers sit up and notice.
But Ford had a long hard look at what the Germans and Japanese were doing in this space, and decided to change their current lineup with somewhat better options and the new SYNC systems.

The Qatar Red Bull Rally Team has managed to maintain a triumphant lead, following a heated four days of action in the initial stages of the 2013 Dakar Rally.
This year’s event, which will see car, bike, quad and lorry drivers tackle 8,500 kilometres of roads, tracks and harsh desert terrain in South America, has got off to a blistering start. And Red Bull’s team have been consistent frontrunners thus far.
After days of technical scruitineering and a visit from Peruvian president Ollanta Humala, the race got underway on January 5th and Red Bull’s Carlos Sainz was quick to make his mark on the track. The Spaniard clocked the fastest time of the 13km opening stage on the outskirts of Pisco with 7 minutes 40 seconds.
Luxury car manufacturer Rolls-Royce has recently introduced three new hood ornaments.
The iconic flying lady that is positioned proudly on the hood of every Rolls-Royce will now be available in an illuminated polycarbonate version that first made an appearance on the 101EX concept at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006.
The illuminated flying ladies are available for the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Ghost from the 2013 model year.
Viewed as one of the most iconic vehicles ever built, the Jeep Wrangler was practically designed to be customised – cue Afzal Kahn.
Under the Kahn expedition vehicles umbrella, the black Jeep Wrangler Sahara 3.6 (petrol 4 door) Chelsea Truck Company CJ400 Expedition vehicle further expands the iconic brand’s reach.
The use of immaculate materials and outstanding build technology is outstanding. An aerodynamically efficient exterior package consists of brake calipers finished in liquid red, side wing blades in carbon, horizontal LED daytime running lights, door entry sill plates in stainless steel, smoked rear lights and headlamps, exterior Kahn enamel wing shields, exterior Kahn enamel tailgate logo, privacy tinted glass, fuel filler cap in smoked black, tron ring lighting, vented foot pedals in machined aluminum, optional crosshair headlamps, mud flaps (toughened rubber – set of 4), and Chelsea Truck Company spare wheel cover.
Afzal Kahn insists the road is his catwalk and true to his mantra, the iconic British designer has combined what can only be described as the “the Champagne of fabrics”, Harris Tweed with a descendent of the all-terrain vehicle developed in 1947 on the 250-acre Anglesey farm of joint Rover MD Maurice Wilks: the iconic Defender.
This is a fashion statement in every single sense of the word and the nearly-seventy-year-old original Defender, treated to a makeover by the principal British Designer under the guise of the Kahn expedition Vehicles Umbrella and aptly titled: The Defender Concept 17 Wide Body – Harris Tweed Prototype, is proof Afzal Kahn is a keen supporter of investing in British Industry.
On paper, it should not work. However, Defender owners need not exercise caution, for Harris Tweed is a ‘noble’ fabric that is favoured by Afzal Kahn and is applied to many of his products.
The Guinness World record for speed has been set on NASA’s Shuttle Landing Facility runway at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida by a custom Ford GT.
The modified street-legal Ford hit 283.232 mph (455.82 km/h) in a standing mile. The vehicle, created by Performance Power Racing features components made from an aerospace aluminum alloy called pandalloy. This specially developed aluminium is perfect for racing as it has lightweight, high strength and temperature resistant properties.
