Audi A3 review – When one thinks of the Gulf War back in 1991, images of the infamous “Stealth†aircraft come to mind. These aircraft were able to penetrate heavily defended airspace in the world without any resistance. They are faster than most other aircraft in the sky and are apparently very easy to fly. The same could be said for Audi’s offering into the hot hatchback segment of the market. The hot hatchback models of recent times offer different styling and wheels to stand out from the slower models and add to the appeal of being young and tough. The BMW and Alfas for instance, offer twin chrome exhausts and different alloy wheels. The Audi looks very similar to the normal 2 litre petrol and diesel variants apart from the subtle 3.2 on the rear. (more…)
For some time now Charl has been nagging me to put something on the car blog. I’ve said yes for sure and the all time question has been which car will I be ranting about? Would it be my all time favourite car the Nissan Skyline (R33 not that crap R34)… or about the EVO IX? I had a grey import for a short term and it was a great car. Well sorry to shock you all, but as your in-house drift god I have an even better choice.
Some of you may be shocked to hear its not even a Japanese Car. Its Australian.
Introducing the Monaro (from Opel (in South Africa), Vauxhall (in the UK) and Holden (in Australia).
Vauxhall ummed and arghhed over its release here in the UK, mainly due to the really crap response UK buyers gave other V8 engine imports (Corvette for example), however it finally made it here and like a geek in nightclub who spots a sexy lady, I have always had my eye on it but never made a move towards it. Until Now.

Dynamism, sportiness and sophistication – the Audi A3 holds an outstanding position in the premium compact class. Now its top-of-the-range version is ready to go, the new Audi S3 boasting 265 bhp and quattro permanent four-wheel drive. With its sparkling performance it pursues the ideal of pure driving pleasure coupled simultaneously with excellent everyday practicality – like all Audi S models.
The S3 redefines the standards of its class – at the level of a sports car. The sprint to 60 mph is accomplished in 5.5 seconds, and acceleration is only halted on reaching 155 mph. Aggressively hard-hitting, free-revving and with a sonorous acoustic profile, the powerful two-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder unit with FSI petrol direct injection proves to be a smooth, high-performance engine.

The Mercedes SL-Class is set to continue its long success story after the latest product update. The Brabus engineers and designers have left no stone unturned to make the roadster even sportier and more exclusive. Equipped with the Brabus SV12 S Biturbo twelve-cylinder twin-turbo engine that delivers 730 bhp, the SL 600 turns into the world’s most powerful roadster. 0 – 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and 124 mph after just 10.9 seconds speak to its prowess as does its top speed electronically limited to 217 mph.
More power by increasing displacement is one of the core philosophies behind the Brabus SV12 S Biturbo engine. The displacement of the twelve-cylinder three-valve engine is increased from 5.5 to 6.3 liters with the help of a billet steel crankshaft, larger cylinder bore, special pistons and piston rods. The conversion also includes re-machining the cylinder heads and fitting them with special camshafts.
The peripherals of the twin-turbo engine also play a large role in the engine’s power yield. The Brabus engineers have also developed a completely new turbocharging system with two larger turbochargers and more efficient intercoolers. Metal catalysts with low back pressure let the Brabus SV12 S Biturbo displacement engine breathe more freely.

All the goodness of the Honda Civic Si coupe has rubbed off onto 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan. The same 197-horsepower iVTEC 2.0-liter engine screams to an 8,000-rpm redline, the same transmission shifts quickly through six gears, the same limited-slip differential delivers great punch exiting the corners and the same sport seats help you resist the G-forces.
The Civic Si sedan is 2 inches longer than the coupe and weighs 60 pounds more, but it has the same high-performance personality and even makes the same numbers at the test track. It just happens to have four doors. This is great news.
