Mercedes F800 Style Concept in Geneva

Mercedes F800 Style Concept 1

The Mercedes-Benz F800 Style broke cover at the ongoing 80th Geneva Motor Show and while a few view it as a research design study which will be an inspiration for future models, there is group of believers that believe it is the 2011 CLS Class.

The F800 Style can use two different powertrains which include a plug-in unit or a fuel cell option. As a fuel-cell powered com muter the F800 motor can get 101kW of energy along with 290Nm of torque although the range wasn’t revealed.

As a plug-in option mated to a V6 engine, F800 manages 403 hp on a combined cycle. The plug-in F800 manages a top speed of 120km/h when only running on the 81kW motor and 249km/h when running on the V6 petrol engine. The F800 manages the 0 to 60mph dash in an impressive 4.7 seconds.

For the ones thinking it to be the next generation CLS, take note that the F800 is seven inches shorter in length which is because of the stubbed rear and a uniquely designed front fascia.

The most electric day ever: Porsche to offer hybrid Panamera

porsche_panamera_hybrid

It’s official – Porsche will offer the Panamera with a hybrid drivetrain. The company confirmed the at the LA Autoshow.

The vehicle will most likely go on on sale in 2011 and will probably not be offered in 4wd guise. Lots of rumours are floating around regarding which system will be used, but the general consensus is that it will not be using the system we’ve seen on the Cayenne.

If all today’s hybrid announcements are anything to go by Porsche will have a host of electric spares to choose from when it raids the VW group’s electric/ hybrid parts bin.

VW_up_lite

This is up Lite concept from VW. It is Lite on fuel. Using only the faintest whisker of fumes of fuel to go on to a consumption figure of just over 2 liters per 100km.

How? Well the name kinda gives it away. Weighing in at only 695kg it really is Lite. It weighs as much as a stack of feathers because of the extensive use of Aluminium, Carbon fibre and lightweight batteries.

The most electric day ever: Audi e-tron sales to start 2012

audi_etron_1

Thomas Edison, Alessandro Volta, Nikola Tesla and Benjamin Franklin. All pioneers in the field of electricity and all of them would’ve been very proud of today’s happenings on the Automotive front.

As you may or may not know the LA Auto show is on at the moment and the main theme is electricity and hybrids. It seems as if every car maker used the show to announce their very own zero emissions aspirations.

First up is the Audi e-tron. While we have all seen the red version a couple of months ago, Audi brought along a butt-ugly orange version for the LA show. What we didn’t know till now was that Audi is planning to sell the e-tron from 2012.

Some of the stats are truly unbelievable like the torque number of 4500 nm of torque! Acceleration is awesome too with 100km/h coming up in4.8s and 60km/h-120km/h takes only 4.1s!

Ugliest Mustang in the World?

We usually don’t write about ugly cars on CarBlog but that thing honestly deserves an article. Presented during SEMA 2008, this is probably the ugliest Mustang you’ll ever get to see, unless they come up with a worse version, next year. Dubbed the “Hardcore Knight” Mustang, it was designed by the guys at Rich Evans Designs who wants to produce 100 limited editions of that … thing. Though I wish him the best of luck, I don’t think during the biggest financial crisis, people will pay big bucks for an ugly car. Do you? – via AutoBlog

VW Super CC Eco Performance Concept

This year’s SEMA is full of interesting stuff, and VW Passat fan should know it. I’m talking about the new Super CC Eco Performance concept, that is based on Passat CC FSI but adds more to the game. That includes custom bumpers for both front and rear, side panels, a new sportier rear spoiler and an amazing grey pearl paint to contrast with those black chrome details. Under the hood, like I said, there’s a 2.0-litre FSI engine that “lives” within the Passat CC, which sports from 222hp to 311hp, depending on the Eco (up to 33mpg), GT or the Performance mode you choose.

Sounds incredible. It’s a mix of power, fuel efficiency and great looks, that will probably get into your heart. – via WCF
