Mazda CX-5 SUV By End of 2011; To Sport Sky Generation Direct-Injection Engines

Japanese automaker Mazda will soon roll out its new small Mazda CX-5 SUV, after having tempted the world with its Kazamai concept for a couple of years now. The new small SUV is to be based on the two-year-old Kazamai concept and is most probably due for a launch date during the end of 2011.

The new small Mazda CX-5 SUV will be rolled with features that have an inclination towards maximum fuel efficiency. The new model is expected to also sport a new set of Sky generation direct-injection engines and a light transmission. The car, in fact, will be the first production Mazda to be powered by the new generation of ultra-efficient Sky engines.

It will also come with regenerative braking and start/stop functionalities. To be at least 100kg lighter compared with rival models, the car might come in both three- and five-door versions.

2012 Ford Ranger Double-Cab Prototypes Caught On Camera

The Ford Ranger prototypes have been spied on while a couple of them were out on a hot weather testing exercise in Death Valley. We have got our hands on a couple of spy pictures clicked from the scene of action. From what we infer, the Ford Ranger trucks are double-cab variants and are expected to come built on a global platform called the T6.

2012 Ford Ranger

Though camouflaged, the trucks – as per the spy images – are likely to boast of Ford’s latest EcoBoost 1.6 liter engine (direct-injection and turbocharged) tuned to 175 bhp (129 kW) and 244 Nm (180 lb-ft) of torque. It is also being speculated that Ford might be lining up 3.0 liter TDCi for the markets who have an affinity for diesel engines.

Most probably, these trucks would be gearing up as a 2012 model and could debut next year.

Volkswagen Race Touareg 3 Teaser Image Out

Ever wondered what a Volkswagen Race Touareg 3 would look like? The carmaker has lifted the wraps off a new teaser image of the upcoming model. Being readied for the Dakar Rally that is to get underway in January 2011, the VW Race Touareg 3 has given us a peep into the front end of the upcoming truck.

Not much can be seen, but we tend to believe that the soon to roll out model looks similar to the test vehicle that was sneak peeked earlier. The guard bars around the grille aren’t visible as we wanted them to be, but it sports similar looks as the one we have seen. The positioning of the blue valves, black hoses, steel tubing, and radiator elements and even the hues it sports give us a fair idea of what the VW Race Touareg 3 would look like.

We guess we will have to wait to see the VW Race Touareg 3 in full till it sails on to the Dakar track in all its elements. It is being speculated that the carmaker would stay with the 300-horsepower (224-kW) TDI engine already in use Same would be the case with the suspension and the chassis too.

Land Rover Brings Its Range Rover Evoque To The Fore

Land Rover’s new compact Range Rover Evoque has been unveiled with the promise that the car would be the smallest, lightest, cleanest Range Rover ever. Unveiled at a ceremony that marked the 40th anniversary of the Range Rover line, the Evoque rolled out of the company’s assembly line with many a celebrity applauding it.

Range Rover Evoque

Land Rover has built the Evoque based on the same platform as the LRX concept with no change whatsoever.

The Evoque has been offered as Land Rover’s first front-wheel drive vehicle. Concerns for the environment have also gone into its making with efforts having been undertaken to snip CO2 emissions below 130g/km on the fwd, diesel version that comes powered by a Ford-PSA-sourced 2.2 TD. The London unveiling saw the three-door Evoque, and it is being said that a five-door version will soon come through.

Showcased as an exclusive, cosmopolitan, cross-continental and sophisticated model, the Evoque will see its world debut at the Paris Motor Expo that gets underway on September 30, this year. UK dealerships are expected to see the arrival of the Evoque, starting summer next year. Likely to sport a £30k-plus price tag in the UK, Land Rover will be offering the Range Rover Evoque in two- and four-wheel drive options.

Volkswagen Single-Cab Amarok Spy Pictures Out; Launch Likely By Early 2011

We have been hearing of the Volkswagen Amarok for quite some time now, and here we have for you a bunch of spy pictures that details the single-cab. By the looks of it, it seems the maker has gone in for a snipped version of the earlier dual-cab Amarok. Take a look at these spy pictures, clicked by an enthusiast somewhere out there.

Though VW hasn’t yet come out in public with details of the single-cab Amarok, we are forced to believe that the little truck would be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TDI with 120 kW (161 hp / 163 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. In the meanwhile, we are also being told that VW might offer a 2.0-liter four-cylinder flex-fuel petrol variant too. You needn’t be surprised if VW also goes in for an automatic transmission too. This would make it a first for the Amarok.

Going by the pictures, the single cab Amarok looks like a vehicle with a few little changes thrown in here and there in comparison with the dual cab design. Alterations include a longer truck bed. Besides this, a long B-pillar that has some extra storage space behind the front seats may also be seen as a change. VW is likely to roll out the single cab Amarok by early 2011. [via WCF]

2011 Ford Explorer Teaser Image

2011 ford explorerWe’ve seen spy images of the 2011 Ford Explorer but this is the first time we get to witness the official teaser image of the SUV.

The first images also sports chief engineer Jim Holland and that pretty much explains the reason why the upcoming model draws inspiration from the Land Rovers.

As per Holland, the 2011 model is a modern interpretation of the Explorer but the spy images rendered a different story. What is a novelty (hailing again from the Rover domain) though is a terrain management system with a total of five settings. We expect to see the 2011 explorer possibly at the LA auto show in November.

Luxury SUV Tuning: ASI Lexus LX570 Invader

Luxury SUV Tuning- ASI Lexus LX570 Invader

Tuning in Japan is an art, and proof to back my sayings is the new Lexus LX570. But not just any LX570, but the one that the folks from ASI got their hands on. Saying that the luxury SUV can actually perform much more aggressively, ASI took the factory 5.7-litre V8 motor (381hp) and the 6-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission to new heights — dubbed it the ASI Lexus LX570 Invader and promised at least 600hp, and a 5 seconds time to reach 100km/h from standing still. That’s pretty impressive, but in honesty, it sounds like an expensive hack for your Lexus LX570. You game?

Next Gen BMW X3 Spotted in Munich

New BMW X3 2

Veils will definitely be taken off the next generation BMW X3 at this year’s Paris Motor Show if not earlier given the testing stage its prototype has reached. The next-generation X3 was spotted doing rounds in the streets of Munich Germany and the prototype looked almost production ready. Compared to the current generation model, the X3 slated to arrive in the future is a tad bigger. The X3 will be a powered by a number of engine choices which include the regular 3.0-liter six, a turbocharged version of the same unit and a diesel option which might hit the market sometime later after the petrol variants get introduced. Spied: Next Generation Ford Explorer

Ford has put in conscious efforts to reduce the bulk on the next-generation Explorer and the results are visible in these latest spy images. Thanks to a gush of wind that took the camouflage off the test model for otherwise, most design traits of the next-generation Explorer will have remained a mystery.

The snappier looking Explorer features a bold grille, projector-beam headlights, and sculpted doors. The next-gen model is riding on the same platform as the redesigned Taurus and it is based on the Explorer America Concept which was showcased at the 2008 North American International Auto Show. The probable engine options for the upcoming Explorer will include a 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 engine that can render 355 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. More details on the Explorer will be available when it is unveiled at the New York Auto Show next week. [via WCF]

Porsche is over-reliant on the sales of its Cayenne SUV and therefore a range expansion comes across as no surprise. The latest addition to the second generation lineage of the Cayenne S model will be a hybrid version which is set for its North American debut at the New York Auto Show next week.

2011 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid 1

The hybrid version features a combination of a supercharged 3.0-liter 333-horsepower engine and a 47 hp electric motor.
