The original Volkswagen Golf GTi may not have been the very first of the hot hatches, but it is undoubtedly the most recognized. Known to many simply as The GTi, it has become one of the most enduring automotive icons of the last thirty-plus years – and for very good reasons.
Performance For Everyone
The secret to the GTi’s longevity is its remarkable all-round ability. Volkswagen may have refined the car over the decades, smoothing out the rough spots and adding ever-greater levels of comfort and equipment, but you don’t have to look very hard to find the boy-racer lurking beneath the cultured surface.

The Qatar Red Bull Rally Team has managed to maintain a triumphant lead, following a heated four days of action in the initial stages of the 2013 Dakar Rally.
This year’s event, which will see car, bike, quad and lorry drivers tackle 8,500 kilometres of roads, tracks and harsh desert terrain in South America, has got off to a blistering start. And Red Bull’s team have been consistent frontrunners thus far.
After days of technical scruitineering and a visit from Peruvian president Ollanta Humala, the race got underway on January 5th and Red Bull’s Carlos Sainz was quick to make his mark on the track. The Spaniard clocked the fastest time of the 13km opening stage on the outskirts of Pisco with 7 minutes 40 seconds.
It is December 2012 and ‘tis the season to be traveling. Some of you will be jet-setting to places abroad while others might be simplifying a local journey with a quick flight, but this article is for the adventure-seekers among us who’ll be travelling the traditional way – A Road Trip.
Taking the right Padkos can make or break your trip. Since you might be stuck in the car for more than 10 hours with the same CD on repeat, fighting off bodies and boogie boards, dealing with traffic and those mundane 45-minute stop & go’s, food may be your only solace. Here are a few Dos and Don’ts for the right padkos.
Biltong – It is a love that has been fostered from a young age with South Africans. However, take care of how much you eat as the salt will induce a great thirst and thus quenching, which could lead to some impromptu stops in the bush (not ideal for the ladies). DO indeed!

As you have probably guessed, the new Mercedes Benz GL 63 AMG comes with all the luxury and comfort that you would expect from this German car. And it doesn’t disappoint. The new Mercedes Benz GL 63 AMG fully carries on the Mercedes tradition in that it offers the best performance oriented all-wheel-drive experience. The AMG comes with top of the line features and equipment that embraces innovation and superb attention to detail, providing a perfect mix of luxury and comfort.
The new Mercedes Benz interior is a breathtaking work of art with high quality leather upholstered seats. The new AMG is the big daddy compared to those archaic and somehow absurdly powerful off-roaders. Then a look under the hood presents to you the source of the power.
The French may be famed for their artisanship when it comes to wine and cheese, but we often overlook their prowess on the car front. The new Peugeot 208 looks set to change all that, reinvigorating the French company’s brand core and breathing new life into the industry with its sleek design. The car, heralded as a ‘supermini’ (bigger than a city car but smaller than a small family car), has us very excited, so without further ado let’s have a look at the machine!
The 208 chops off another 173kg from the 207′s already featherweight bulk whilst upping the available legroom by 5cm. A big plus for the green-minded and those taller fans of Peugeot alike. The green aspect being increasingly important to its customers, Peugeot has ensured that the 208 emits under 100g/km of CO2. This is a cool move for the company as it knows it was treading in dangerous water with its previous models.
Since its introduction in 2002, the Mazda 6 its all its incarnations has shifted over a million units. Whilst this may come as no surprise to those who’ve seen it first-hand (or indeed those who voted it ‘best family car’ in 2012 in What Car? Magazine), it seems a quietly sensible car, albeit one with a stylish and mega-modern design. The result of the Japanese company creating a new visual language of sorts (codenamed Kodo) for its designs, sees the 2013 Mazda 6 looking positively ferocious with its headlights-cum-hawk eyes and sleek, aerodynamic chassis.
The buzz around it is making car enthusiasts desperate to catch more than a fleeting glance! Charging ahead with the Takeri concept the company unveiled last year, the newest model will champion the futuristic appeal we’ve come to expect of Mazda.
Vauxhall hopes that the Adam will beat the likes of its competitors MINI and the Fiat 500, with its unique stylish design and lots of hi-tech gadgets found inside the car.
The Adam was officially unveiled at the Paris motor show in September 2011 and will drive into UK showrooms in January 2013. Adam and its unique design offer over one million, (yes one million) different styling combinations to choose from. Vauxhall have said.“It’s truly a new kind of car!”
Vauxhall have designed three different trims for their launch:
• JAM (fashionable/colourful)
• GLAM (elegant/sophisticated)
Adam is a classy, sophisticated, three door car, which unlike its rivals bucks its design to be retro. It appeals to free thinking individuals who like things that are different, striking and quirky to other cars.
