Offenders on the road who make a mockery of the traffic rules and ignore others, will now have a grim situation to deal with. That’s because the folks from Rager have launched a SMS-based anti-road rage service that aims to promote safer driving. As per Carmen du Preez, marketing manager for Rager, it is a “road management service which will pass the problem back to where it belongs, the offender.

People looking to report offenders will need to simply text their complaint to 34792 and the anonymous SMS could promote safer and more courteous driving. The best part about anonymity is that road users (both the offender and the offended) can interact with one another.

Rager is well equipped to keep track of regular offenders through crowd-sourced input and in cases where an offender becomes a serious hazard; the relevant authorities can be notified and the matter escalated. Rager may be an SMS based service but it does not endorse texting while driving and therefore an informative online site has been created where visitors can read the ‘Rules of Rage’ and monitor recent rage posts. People looking to apologize for their offense can do the same using the website. Another feature, ‘rave’ is being developed to compliment each other on good and courteous driving behavior.

The V10-engine powered beast capable of churning 522 hp and going 0 to 62mph in 3.7 seconds, is a limited edition model with only 500 units being produced and production beginning later this year. With orders being received from over 56 countries, each unit will come with an estimated base price of $350,000 to $375,000; a price that Europeans are seemingly not bothered with. So we wonder, what financial crisis?

Tata Nano Europa 1 Tata Nano to Cost More in the US

Tata Nano impressesed with its inexpensive price tag in India which made it cheapest car in the world, but over the other side of the globe, in the US, Nano will not be able to stick to its cost effectiveness. The obvious reason is that the Nano will need to undergo a number of changes to become drivable on American roads — like we mentioned last time. It will require a longer front end and even the engine will have to be upgraded to match the emission standards. On the inside, Tata Nano will require airbags, changed seats, sturdier roofing and an improved steering wheel.

The car did meet the crash test standards in Europe but the specifications are slightly different in the US. Tata Nano which has already been showcased at the Detroit Auto Show costs a modest $2500 in India but with all these changes incorporated, it will hit the $8,000 mark or may be even more.

A highly popular model across the globe, we have just managed to get our hands on pictures with the interior of the new Chevrolet Aveo.. If you folks remember the Chevrolet Aveo RS concept that was showcased at the NAIAS earlier this month, there isn’t much difference you will find between the two; except for the centre console with Bluetooth controls and the lacquer trim. The list of similarities include the instrument cluster housing, a multi-function steering wheel, HVAC vents and controls and even the storage options are alike. The Bluetooth controls have been substituted with a CD/Radio Sound System. Nothing is known about the engine, although the RS concept sported a 1.4L Ecotec engine that rendered 138hp. The next-gen BMW 1 Series has been spied a number of times before, but today we caught it testing in cold weather conditions in Northern Europe. The previously spied model was a turbocharged model with twin tailpipes, but this prototype has a naturally aspirated engine as we only managed to see a single tailpipe in these spy shots — which by the way, also reveal that the 2012 model will come with LED taillights and a twin kidney grille. The compact variant will probably sport a 105bhp petrol engine and a 136bhp turbo option. Also offered, there could be a 3.0L twin-turbo M1 option mated to a dual-clutch gearbox, the combination helping the car achieve a 0 to 60mph time of 4.7 seconds. Not bad, eh? [via WCF]
