The key is sporty styling and that is what makes the redesigned Mazda 3 MPS different from its ‘siblings. Features like a hood mounted intercooler scoop, a different set of front and rear bumpers, bolder skirting on the sides and 18-inch aluminum wheels with Dunlop tyres complete the sporty theme. As far as the power is concerned, the Mazda 3MPS takes aid of a 2.3-liter DISI turbocharged engine capable of producing 191 kW and 380 Nm of torque. Courtesy of this power, the MPS can pelt from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and tops it out at 250km/h (electronically limited). The engine is mated to a revised six-speed manual transmission with gear radios that are wider as well as improved drive shafts to bring down the torque steer to minimum.
Dewildt, the new 3 MPS, as did the previous generation and now the 6 GTI, comes with electronic torque stability control especially in the first 2 gears. In other words the torque (and by and large the power) is limited in order to prevent torque-steer in the lower gears. The upside; it prevents idiots from killing themselves. The downside; it literally makes the car slower – not slow though…
September 8, 2009 9:46 amWell, as the above person mentioned, IF it is a front wheel drive car, then I wouldn even consider buying it (what is Mazdas problem with always making FRONT wheel drive sports cars – Mazda MX6)
Second, the Front bumper, the black piece that the number plate bolts onto, its UGLY and it makes it look like a Peugot 106 or something along that line!!!
I guess someone will make a sports kit to remove it in time!
Otherwise, it looks like an amazing machine, similar to the new Subaru WRX STI

The have made a massive mistake with the front of this car, it looks like a very happy pokemon. With the performance though, I’m a bit concerned that the power would be too much for the front wheels to cope, and the handling would suffer for that.
I stand to be corrected but in my opinion this car needs 4WD, but then that would probably place it in subaru and mitsubishi territory, away from the hot hatch for which it was designed from the start.
