Toyota Prius Coupe may actually be a reality

Published by on Jul 27th, 2009, No Comments

With the world craving for greener cars, a coupe based on the highly popular Toyota Prius may not be a bad idea. The fact that there are some new details available about the coupe has spurred rumors of its development. Although it is yet to be christened (the MR-2 may see a revival), this car will directly be a competitor of the Honda CR-Z Hybrid. All that is yet known about the design is that it will be completely unique with a sporty flair.

The car will be based on a shorter variant of the Prius Platform and will offer a 2+2 seating arraignment. A massive influence of the Prius will also be seen in the cabin. Talk about the engine and powering the grind could be a revamped version of the Prius’ hybrid powertrain with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with 136PS, up from the 99PS otherwise rendered. The fuel economy of 48 mpg will be a quality you seldom attribute to a regular coupe. It should be available sometime in 2012 with a base price slightly above $22,000. [via 7tune]

Talk about redemption and Veritas is one heck of an example. After living in the oblivion for more than half a century, it popped out from nowhere with an RS III Coupe. Now that it is scorching the roads with a roadster version also in the ranks, we hear of some more options to come. The first they say would be a limited edition (30 units only) RS III Coupe and if that didn’t satiate you enough-there is also an SUV that will be cradled with a small aircraft engine in a car-fiber body casing. I always knew that the RS III and the RSIII roadster would turn out to be popular designs. Given the fact that Veritas sticks to the original retro designs, it is getting difficult to even picture a Coupe or an SUV, so I am desperately looking forward to those designs. [via Autoblog]

Published by on Jul 24th, 2009, No Comments

Honda NSX prototype was impressive and had a lot of speed buffs waiting to see a production version, but unfortunately that never happened. Indeed, it was a case where the prototype to was dumped forever but somehow it has now redeemed it self as a green sports car. The difference would be that instead of a 5.2L V10 motor it would now house a valveless throttle 3.5-litre V6 with a hybrid system.

This grind will be able to render 330kW which means the NSX will be no threat to the Nissan GT-R; instead, it will now compete with the likes of the Toyota FT-HS and BMW M3. The performance could be dented though, owing to the extra weight of batteries and the hybrid apparatus. The SH-AWD will be placed on an aluminum platform which will help maintain the traits for the category it hails from. [via WCF]

You seldom get the mix of an American performance with the Italian Style and when it does happen, you can expect something worthwhile. The SV 9 Competizione offers that interesting blend and we quite like what we see. The car embraces a unique carbon fiber body which ‘borrows more than a few lines from the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione’.

The designing does not ignore the role of airflow properties that channel air through the hood and rear ducts, thereby increasing brake and engine cooling. Under the hood, there s another revised air-intake and a custom-tuned ANSA exhaust which is modeled after the Ferrari Daytona and 599 GTB. These changes help the Competizione churn 450hp and 445lb-ft of torque. The 0 to 60 mph timing for this scorcher is 4 seconds. A limited edition of only 1,000 units will be produced and each of them would cost $99,995.

We do not know whether it was supposed to flock the web with images at this point in time or not, but the 2010 Saab 9-5 has gone public with a set of leaked press images. The images reveal a distinctive styling with a bold front end and a visibly sleek profile. The A-pillars are blackened (which is something new to the Saab designing trends) and there is also a dark trim across the top of the side windows. The dramatic appearance of the car is assisted by the C-pillars at the rear and the cause is assisted by the clear LED lights.
