Trying to be ahead of any other hatches in the European market is no easy task, but Renault seems to have the right ingredients for an amazing car. Just a few days ago in Geneva, the latest Renault Megane RS has been unveiled to the public and everyone seemed to love it. Inspired by the Trophy racer Megane, the new RS is definitely meaner and faster. With an agressive front grille splitter and big arches, a center-exit exhaust within the diffuser, bulging side sills and some intriguing  two-tone alloys, you’ll have to admit that even if it’s a French car … it’s a damn good looking one.

But my bet is that you’d like to know what makes that kitty roar. Well there’s a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter 16-valve turbo engine under the hood, a sharper chassis available in “Sport” and “Cup”,  fully defeatable stability control and an improved steering, it’s quite a contender to Ford’s Focus RS. We’re definitely sold on the new design. A hot looking racer … [via TopGear]

Renowned for building sports cars in the past, the Brits from Frazer-Nash shifted their interest by putting all their efforts into developing hybrid drive systems. And although they’re not building cars anymore, together with the Italian designers from Giugiaro the new Namir was born. Fast and agile as a tiger (Namir in Arabic), the concept has been unveiled at this year’s Salon in Geneva as a green supercar and claims the title for the “fastest hybrid in the world. With power coming from two electric engines, a large 400V lithium polymer battery and an 800cc gasoline rotary engine that works as a generator, Namir manages to output nothing less than 370 hp – enough to take it 0 to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds and to 200km/h in a mere 10.4 seconds. With a top speed of 300 km/h we can only imagine what an experience it would be to drive that one. [via WCF]

Already known as a player in the exotic cars niche, the Dutch folks from Spyker debuted their latest supercar at this years Auto Show in Geneva. Already known to the public from last year’s salon, the new Spyker C8 Aileron is a unique and quirky concept with an exquisite body work that includes LED turn indicators, stylish scissor doors, a small rooftop air inlet and round air intakes in the flanks that make you wonder what they are. Powered by a 400hp Audi 4.2 liter V8 engine mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, the aircraft inspired supercar reaches a top speed of 300 km/h and goes 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.5 seconds. If it’s one thing we hate about the 2009 C8 Aileron, it’s the orange interior with those shiny metal accents. First deliveries are expected begin in May. [via Autoblog]

Aston Martin Lagonda, Definition for Ugly or Revival of a Luxury Brand?

Published by on Mar 4th, 2009, 1 Comment

Writing about what’s cool, fast or expensive has been the usual here on carblog, but when seeing the latest Aston Martin Lagon, our eyes got hurt and we decided it’s time to blog about it. Considered the “luxury car of the future”, Lagonda is one of the oldest and most iconic names in luxury car manufacturing that is will be revived after a nearly 18 year absence to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary. And they did it in Geneva. A mix between a sedan and a crossover, there’s a dominating front with a wide grille that has horizontal bars, large air intakes, swept-back headlights, and blackened A-pillars. Call us conservative, but for some reason we won’t vouch for it, even if Aston Martin Lagonda is expected to “create a new kind of customer relationship, instilling the spirit of travel, adventure and style into a single, formidable package.”

Like it or not, green supercars that won’t burn fuel to “brake sound barrier” are a fact. That’s why Koenigsegg is trying to stay ahead of others. For this year’s Motor Show in Geneva, they’ve teamed up with Swiss gurus from NLV Solar AG to come up with this Quant concept. All covered with a thin-flm photovoltaic coating and using a patented groundbreaking FAES (Flow Accumulator Energy Storage) technology, the four-seat solar electric outputs 512 hp, goes 0 to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds and tops at 275 km/h. Only taking 15-20 minutes to fully charge and offering a 500 km range, we wish the Koenigsegg Quant makes into production sooner. Kudos for the great design and the amazing trechnology … – via

If that surprises anyone, the new 2010 VW Polo looks a lot like the “worshiped” MkVI Golf. Better in many ways, the little city car looks mature and tries to reach to the high-end class. And after losing some weight it managed to significantly improve fuel efficiency. But if you’re considering it for what’s under the hood, too, the Germans updated it with two impressive new engines, and a option to have them mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. And the one that got our attention the new 1.2 liter (TSI) turbocharged four-cylinder direct injection engine sports 105 hp and goes 100km on only 5.5 l of gasoline. Expected to start selling from June, the new Polo could be a hot seller with that bad economy. All it needs, is a good price. – via

Looking at the new models that make it to Geneva this year, we’re really thinking if this year’s auto show is only for the rich and famous. Check out the new Aston Martin One-77, the most expensive and highest performing production car the company ever built. “Detailing the quintessence of Aston Martin engineering and design expertise”, the car has a hand-crafted aluminum body with sexy curves that trigger serious head turns. But the amazing isnot only the stunning exterior, but the power under the hood. Running on a 6.0-litre V12 engine that outputs just a bit over 700 hp, tops well over 200mph and sprints to 60mph in 3.5 seconds. Now you see why Batman is fighint with James Bond, to decide who’ll spin it first? – via

Nothing short of breathtaking, the motorsport inspired TT RS packs aturbocharged direct injected 2.5-liter five-cylinder that outputs 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, should be available both as a coupe and a roadster and should do 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. Performance oriented, lightweight thanks to its largely aluminum body and featuring state of the art technology that includes Audi’s permanent all-wheel-drive quattro system and a six-speed manual gearbox, the exclusive ride impresses with those unique large-diameter wheels, alloy-effect door mirrors, aggressive bumpers, RS badges on the brakes and sill extensions.
