Ford's BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle)

Ford is trying to make it to the exquisite guys club, and announced that their ongoing electric vehicle program will bring the BEV – also known as Project to the market in 2012. Based on the 2010 Ford Focus, the electric vehicle is a joint venture between Ford and Magna International, Inc. which promises a car with a range of up to 100 miles on a single charge. Though supposed to be an affordable ride, there aren’t any official details about it and to be honest we’re not sure if 100 miles are enough for the daily commuter. Wouldn’t a small gas engine do the job well … when needed? [via DetroitNews]

A range of 100 miles seems pretty pathetic, doesn’t it?
Until the performance of the cars are improved and the infrastructure is in place to support them, it’s hard to see electric cars becoming a common sight on the roads.
