Not that the GTC convertible wouldn’t be enough for your or me, but for the rich, the new faster version of the car is pure adrenaline. Bentley GTC Speed is now able to bring it from zero to 60mph in just 4.5 seconds thanks to a twin-turbo W12 producing that outputs 600hp and 553 lb-ft. of torque, making it the fastest Bentley ever built. Featuring a dark-tinted matrix grille, chrome bezels around the headlights, a lowered ride height, low-friction dampers, stiffer rear axle bushings, wider tires an carbon-ceramic brakes, it looks like the best Bentley money can buy. Is it? – via Autoblog

Do you remember when Dacia Logan and Sandero got the Renaultsport badge? We were pretty disappointed that it’s not the Megane or the Laguna to get the same treatment. Apparently the French chewed on it and decided that it’s time to get the artillery out. Prepared for this year’s Geneva auto show in March, the enhanced version of the Megane gets its inspiration from Megane trophy race car and will be using a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine (the same from R26 model) mated to a six speed manual transmission. Expected to output nothing less than 250 hp, the Renaultsport Megane should go naught to 100km/h in just 6 seconds. My bet is that it will really take on the VW Scirocco, what do you think? It’s real. You car can really get you a date. Take a look at the new Mercedes-Benz CLS Grand Edition that got a date with “Brand Ambassador” Julia Stegner for a photo shooting for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Berlin 2009. Though we’re not sure where you’ll put your eyes (the car of the beautiful girl) we do know that there are amazing 5-spoke 18-inch AMG wheels, a “Grand Edition” tag on the front wings, some aluminum pedals to make you feel like racing and the look-it-in-the-dictionary “designo magno platinum” matt paint finish. Doesn’t look bad, is it? The car that is … [via Jalopnik]

Audi S1 – Badass!

audi s1 Audi S1 Badass!

For some reason I never liked Audi A1, but seeing the way things improve with the high-performance S1, I’m tempted to think again. Based on the Metroproject concept of 2007, the new Audi S1 is expected to compete with the 211hp Cooper S JCW and the powerful Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA. It features a quattro 4wd system, packs some beautiful 10-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels, an S Tronic twin-clutch gearbox and the same 1.4 liter super- and turbo-charged four-cylinger TSI (178hp/ 133kW) that we’ll get to see in the new Polo GTI. There’s also an ECU tweak that will take the little bugger to 200 hp.

Expected in 2011, the new Audi S1 should cost some £25,000 ($37,000). Worth it?

Splinter, The Wooden Supercar

Published by on Jan 6th, 2009, No Comments

There is something about supercars that make us love them. Be it the sporty shapes or the fact that they have a lot of horses under the hood, we’d simply love to own or at least drive one of these things.

But when the whole supercar is made of wood, you definitely have to consider it. Looking a lot like a Lambo, the Splinter is the work of Joe Harmon – a North Carolina State University student. Weighing a good 2500 lbs, with a twin supercharged, 4.6litre V8 engine that outputs some 600 hp and amazing shapes, it sure looks like a collector’s item. Though we hope he builds it, we definitely have to think what happens if it rains or if you bump into something. Is it safe?

Hyundai doesn’t seem to be affected by the global financial crisis that has hit the auto market really bad in the last few months, and released some sketches with what looks like their new flagship: the 2010 Hyundai Equus. Formerly known as VI the car is going to use the rear-wheel drive technology from the Genesis platform, has a 4.6 liter V8 engine (and later 5.0 V8) that should develop some 400hp. Hyundai is all set to debut the new Equus in South Korea in February 2010. Do you think it will get close to the German premium automakers, because from what I see, the front resembles some Merc-flavor, isn’t it? – via Hyundai Blog

All New 2010 VW Polo GTI

Published by on Jan 5th, 2009, 14 Comments

We already knowhow Golf 6 looks like, we’ve seen the GTI or the MK6 version, but did you know that the Germans have been secretly working on an all new Polo GTI as well? What you see in here is an artist rendering of what could be the fastest series Polo ever.

new volkswagen polo gti All New 2010 VW Polo GTI

Powered by the same 1.4 liter super- and turbo-charged four-cylinger TSI as the Ibiza Cupra and developing nothing less than 178 hp, it should top at 225kmh and reach 60 mph in less than 7 seconds. Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, with red brake calipers, dual exhaust, and signal mirrors, the new Polo GTI is expected to do 40mpg (7 l/100km), and emits 150 grams of CO2/km. Not that bad if you care about the environment.

Prices should be close to £15,500 ($22,500) and we think that if it looks like this, it’s going to be a top seller. At least in Europe. – WCF via autoexpress
