Toyota Auris unveiled in Johannesburg

The new Toyota Auris was unveiled to Johannesburg at a massive party held at Tokyo Sky on Friday night and Car Blog was invited. The car is set to be a replacement for the current RunX/Corolla series.

The Auris comes with a variety of engines, ranging from a 1.4 to a fantastic 2.0 diesel. The performance of all model variations is exeptional compared to its rivals. Styling is subtle and nothing over the top. It combines elements of the RunX and the smaller Yaris. On the inside its funky and fresh with quirky touches here and there. Take for instance the handbrake positioning and shape. It looks like something out of Star Trek! Everything seems to have a new feel and advanced feel to it. I really liked the rev counter and speedo clusters.

It is pretty safe too with a set of multiple airbags and the good old brake assist, traction control and anti lock brakes. 5 Star NCAP rating cant be too bad either! With the world aiming for a greener future, Toyota is pioneering the art of the efficient green car. Just look at the Prius for instance. The Auris is very good at producing a low carbon dioxide emission.

Prices start from R156,500 for the 1.4 RT and top out at R229,900 for the 2.0 RX D-4D

I’m a driver of the old us corolla and I’m excited about the new one. I wish the corolla was available as a hybrid, i don’t like what the prius looks like.

Toyota kept the some of the lines from the Runx, but watered it down somewhat. Toyota’s main seller has always been rather conservative, so I’d expect this one to sell well.
