Porsche prepares four-door slingshot

Porsche Panamera

As part of its drive to expand its product range, Porsche is currently known to be working on development of a new saloon/hatch vehicle. The new car, called the Panamera, is allegedly to use the 8 cylinder 4,5L mills that currently do service in the Cayenne range. Also mulled for inclusion is an Audi-sourced V10 – initially, the V10 from the Carrera GT was tipped as the range-topper, but production limitations are said to have precluded it from inclusion. Jeep Trailhawk review

_214.jpg

First seen at this year’s Detroit Motor Show, the Trailhawk is not only an amazing looking machine, but gives a clear indication of how Jeep wants its cars to drive in the future.

Based on a stretched Wrangler platform and powered by an efficient 3.0-litre diesel, the all-wheel-drive four-seater looks typically tough. However, it promises to deliver a driving experience that will be more refined than any of its predecessors.

In fact, bosses at Jeep were keen to use the words ‘highway cruiser’ when talking about the Trailhawk’s road manners. It’s clear this is intended as a vehicle that’s comfortable to ride in, but is also packed with off-road ability.

With all of that in mind, the Trailhawk obviously has a lot to live up to – but it’s important to remember the huge newcomer is more than a mere flight of fantasy. Although it’s described as a concept, the Trailhawk is an important milestone in the development of Jeep’s new generation of SUVs. Read the rest of this entry »

Autostyle R5000 Reward

autostyle reward

Right, we all know South Africa is suffering from an ever increasing wave of crime. Unfortunately this past weekend we too fell victim to this. Late last week a shipment of alloy wheels destined for our Jhb store experienced the proverbial ‘shrinkage’. That said, this looked like quite the professional job.
While half our shipment arrived intact, the missing wheels were carefully selected and matched. Surely the thieves behind this knew their wheels and knew exactly what they wanted. I’ll be going out on a limb, but I’m pretty sure there was a substantial ‘inside job’ factor involved. No petty thief will run off with 30 sets (4 wheels per set) of alloy wheels.

These wheels WILL NOT be sold for scrap metal, nor will they be used for personal use at show & shine events. These will be flogged into the market at rockbottom prices. This is not the first time its happened to us, however this time these wheels ALL sport our in-house Evo Tuning branding, as well as several Autostyle Motorsport branding & labelling on the packaging.

Autostyle Motorsport will be offering a R5000 (yes five thousand) reward if your tipoff leads to a conviction &/or recovery of our goods. The above image is the two designs that have been nicked. These wheels are bound to end up in various classifieds, fleamarkets & dodgy retailers who should know better.
These wheels are both 4/100 pcd and fit virtually all Golf 1,2 & 3 models as well as various Toyota & Opels.

New hybrid Toyota pick up

CSP_Toyota1234567.jpg

We’ve done it again! Car blog brings you exclusive spy photos of an undisguised next generation Toyota Pick-Up and it is definitely a stunner. Caught by spy photographers somewhere between the Blue and White Niles in eastern Sudan, Africa, the yet unnamed Pick-Up is powered by an innovative, eco-friendly animal-train that’ll subsequently replace Toyota & Lexus hybrid powertrains in the very near future. A Toyota representative revealed to Car blog in an off-the-cd conversation that the Japanese automaker has been reviewing two different types of animal-trains but declined to say what the second one was. Stay tuned for more info on this breaking story.

Smart costing Daimler Chrysler billions

smart.JPG

The German newspaper Handelsblatt is reporting that Daimler Chrysler spent R40 Billion on the smart brand in the four years. Even tough, Daimler doesn’t report profits or losses for Smart brand, they say that the german newspaper came up with the figure after obtaining the information from liquidated Smart in Germany.

This of course is nothing new to us, as Mercedes has reported over and over again that they are losing money with the smart brand. That is basically one of the main reasons they’ve decided to enter the US market. Let’s hope the coming years will bring the smart to a profitable point. Smart hasn’t really taken off on our shores with poor sales figures for the last two years dispite South Africa being in a car buying boom.
